Director, Engineering Operations

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop executive-level narratives that link Product, Engineering, and Data investments, delivery, and operational performance to both customer and business results.

• Take ownership of regular executive updates, company communications, and inputs for board meetings.

• Highlight significant changes, trade-offs, risks, and decisions by providing concise context and recommendations.

• Convert strategy into measurable outcomes, including objectives, key results, and operational KPIs.

• Create a balanced perspective on customer and business impact, delivery effectiveness, quality, reliability, security, efficiency, and organizational health.

• Design and manage annual, quarterly, and continuous portfolio-planning cycles.

• Keep portfolio views that encompass outcomes, initiatives, ownership, dependencies, milestones, capacity, and risks updated.

• Facilitate decision-making regarding prioritization and sequencing.

• Define and enhance the software delivery lifecycle from discovery to release, adoption, measurement, and learning.

• Set up operating reviews that concentrate on outcomes, delivery confidence, quality, reliability, customer impact, constraints, risks, and decisions.

• Create capacity models that link portfolio demand with team skills, hiring plans, external partners, and operational commitments.

• Collaborate with Finance, Product, and Engineering on headcount planning, allocation trade-offs, capability gaps, and investment decisions.

• Develop systems for identifying, escalating, resolving, and tracking cross-functional risks, dependencies, and decisions.

• Act as a trusted operational partner to the CTO, Engineering leadership, Product leadership, and the Engineering Leadership Team.

• Enhance cross-functional relationships, ownership, and accountability.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven leadership experience in Engineering Operations, Product Operations, Technical Program Management, Business Operations, a technical Chief of Staff role, or a similar position within a SaaS or product-focused technology company.

• Outstanding executive communication abilities and a demonstrated track record of connecting Product and Engineering efforts to customer and business impacts.

• Experience in defining outcomes, OKRs, KPIs, scorecards, portfolio-planning processes, and operating-review cycles across various teams.

• Familiarity with modern product development and software delivery lifecycles, including considerations for platform, reliability, security, and technical investment trade-offs.

• Background in resource, headcount, budget, and capacity planning in collaboration with Finance and functional leaders.

• Strong analytical judgment and capability to create reliable reporting using product, engineering, financial, and customer data.

• Established ability to facilitate challenging cross-functional decisions, manage significant risks and dependencies, and bring clarity to uncertainty.

• Practical experience employing AI-assisted tools to enhance synthesis, planning, and analysis, while ensuring outputs are verified and sensitive information is protected.
