Director, Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the strategic and operational roadmap for the engineering organization, translating business strategy into departmental objectives, tactical initiatives, and resource allocation decisions.

• Lead, mentor, and hold accountable managers, individual contributors, and offshore development teams.

• Oversee the department’s budget, headcount, resource planning, key performance indicators (KPIs), and business outcomes.

• Act as a liaison between executive leadership and the engineering team.

• Establish engineering best practices that encompass code quality, testing methodologies, and architecture governance.

• Align technical strategy and execution with organizational goals while shaping multi-quarter roadmaps.

• Foster technical excellence, accountability, innovation, and a culture of continuous improvement.

• Coach managers and individual contributors to build readiness for succession planning.

• Supervise the delivery of scalable and secure software solutions within an agile framework.

• Address organizational challenges, resource limitations, competing priorities, dependencies, and escalation issues.

• Assess and implement emerging technologies, including generative AI tools.

• Formulate hiring strategies and plan workforce needs.

• Ensure adherence to documentation, knowledge management, and software development lifecycle processes.

• Provide technical direction on complex design and architectural choices.

• Manage work intake and prioritization, including Kanban execution, estimation, timelines, and work quality.

• Oversee the relationship with offshore engineering vendors and their management teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 7 years of experience in software development, including a minimum of 3 years in a leadership role.

• Demonstrated ability to balance strategic, long-term platform investments with immediate delivery commitments and business priorities.

• Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the capacity to influence executive leadership and advocate for engineering priorities across functions.

• Experience utilizing generative AI tools such as Claude (preferred) and Copilot to enhance productivity and achieve high-quality results.

• Strong experience in building and scaling Software as a Service (SaaS) applications, with a proven track record of leading multiple teams or a larger, cross-functional engineering organization.

• Practical experience with Azure and modern development methodologies; familiarity with version control systems, preferably Git.

• Knowledge of Agile methodologies, particularly Kanban, and a proven ability to drive process consistency across various teams.

• Proven experience in managing budgets, KPIs, and resource/headcount planning at a departmental or organizational level.

• A Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
