This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Oversee the continuous development and enhancement of the General Medicine therapeutic area strategy.
• Convert therapeutic area goals into disease and franchise priorities, portfolio implications, investment focuses, and strategic initiatives.
• Keep a proactive perspective on scientific advancements, standards of care, patient and customer needs, competitive landscape, and Amgen’s portfolio.
• Evaluate unique opportunities, investment focuses, and identify areas to deprioritize.
• Ensure that asset and program decisions align with the broader therapeutic area and franchise strategy.
• Collaborate with Business Development and Commercial BD on external innovation priorities and opportunity evaluations.
• Act as the Commercial strategic lead and representative for early pipeline initiatives and programs.
• Collaborate with Research, Development, Medical, and other teams to define patient populations, unmet needs, treatment context, differentiation requirements, product profiles, and evidence needs.
• Identify strategic and commercial inquiries early enough to impact research, development, and investment decisions.
• Evaluate scientific and technical success and formulate recommendations regarding progression, investment, partnerships, or discontinuation.
• Lead cross-functional teams in developing target product profiles and strategic development plans.
• Direct New Product Planning and initial commercial evaluations, including market and competitive analysis, patient segmentation, positioning, forecasting, and commercial opportunity analysis.
• Facilitate cross-functional opportunity evaluations across development stages to guide indication prioritization, sequencing, and expansion of patient impact.
• Collaborate with Research, Development, Medical, Competitive Intelligence, Business Analytics and Insights, Commercial, and other departments to support strategic decision-making.
• Synthesize scientific, clinical, customer, competitive, epidemiological, market research, real-world evidence, forecasting, and analytics insights.
• Formulate clear recommendations amidst uncertainty and influence effectively without formal authority.
• Doctorate degree and 4 years of marketing and/or commercial experience, OR Master’s degree and 7 years of marketing and/or commercial experience, OR Bachelor’s degree and 9 years of marketing and/or commercial experience.
• Background in the biopharmaceutical industry, life sciences strategy consulting, or a related sector.
• Proven experience in tackling complex strategic and commercial challenges.
• Familiarity with New Product Planning, pipeline commercial strategy, portfolio strategy, commercial development, strategy consulting, forecasting, market research, analytics, business development, or related fields.
• Experience in assessing early-stage assets, disease opportunities, or product concepts.
• Capability to integrate across various functions.
• Preferred therapeutic area experience in cardiovascular disease, bone health, or other General Medicine domains.
• Strong agility in scientific and clinical learning.
• Ability to engage credibly with scientific and clinical experts and translate technical data into strategic implications.
• Exceptional qualitative and quantitative strategic judgment.
• Proficient in structuring ambiguous issues, identifying critical decision assumptions, evaluating trade-offs, and formulating recommendations amidst uncertainty.
• Proven ability to lead through influence and establish trusted cross-functional partnerships.
• Advanced degree such as an MBA, PhD, PharmD, MD, MPH, or another relevant scientific or business discipline is preferred.
