Director, Decision Science

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Lead and build the decision science team

• Recruit, onboard, mentor, and nurture scientists and analysts

• Take ownership of team members' career advancement

• Define the strategy, roadmap, priorities, and success metrics for the function

• Collaborate with product, engineering, marketing, finance, and executive leadership to identify analytical challenges

• Oversee predictive, prescriptive, and causal modeling for product decisions, customer retention, pricing, and operational efficiency

• Enhance the delivery of insights through dashboards, metric definitions, documented recommendations, and executive presentations

• Communicate findings and recommendations to senior leadership

• Foster data literacy throughout Instructure

• Collaborate with data engineering and platform teams on data, tools, and infrastructure

• Ensure the ethical and privacy-conscious handling of data, including student information

• Adhere to relevant regulations and company standards

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 10 years of experience in data science, analytics, or decision science

• At least three years of experience in managing and developing a team

• Proven history of analytical work that influenced significant decisions and achieved measurable business outcomes

• Extensive expertise in experimental design, causal inference, statistical modeling, and machine learning

• Proficient in SQL

• Proficiency in Python or R

• Familiarity with modern data platforms and large-scale data tools such as Snowflake, Databricks, or Spark

• Capability to articulate complex analyses to executives in simple terms and justify methodologies to quantitative peers

• Demonstrated success in hiring, developing talent, and fostering a strong team culture

• Ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment with incomplete data

• Master's or PhD in statistics, economics, computer science, operations research, applied mathematics, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent practical experience

• Experience in the education technology sector or B2B SaaS is a plus

• Knowledge of subscription and product-led growth metrics is an advantage

• Experience in establishing an analytics or decision science function from the ground up is a plus

• Must successfully pass a background check
