This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.
• Lead the data management, quality, governance, and stewardship initiatives at Live Oak Bank.
• Foster relationships with business leaders to align the data management strategy with the overall business objectives.
• Address intricate data challenges and pinpoint process enhancements that elevate data quality from the source.
• Collaborate with the Chief Data & Analytics Officer and the Data & Analytics leadership on prioritizing investments.
• Direct the data quality initiative, broaden monitoring coverage, minimize outstanding exceptions, and cultivate trust in data.
• Oversee metadata management, which includes maintaining the business glossary, classification, and lineage.
• Enhance the semantic layer and create a unified data language across both business and technical teams.
• Establish data foundations for AI and autonomous systems.
• Manage the partnership with Monte Carlo, Live Oak's data quality monitoring solution.
• Spearhead the Data Stewardship program, assisting stewards from various business domains and expanding the stewardship community.
• Integrate data quality checks and standards into everyday business operations.
• Evolve data governance policies, standards, and processes as the bank's and regulatory requirements change.
• Represent data governance in bank-wide vendor management, vendor assessments, and third-party risk initiatives.
• Collaborate with Information Security, Compliance, Risk, Internal Audit, and external regulators as needed.
• Lead, mentor, and develop the data management, quality, and governance team.
• 8+ years of experience in data management, data quality, data governance, or related disciplines.
• 3+ years of experience in a leadership role.
• Strong experience in business partnerships, translating business strategies and operational requirements into data results.
• Practical experience with data quality methodologies, tools, and operational quality enhancements.
• Background in leading a data stewardship or similar cross-functional data community.
• Experience in designing and executing data governance programs that align with risk and regulatory frameworks.
• Proficient knowledge of Databricks, Unity Catalog, dbt, Fivetran, and cloud-based data warehouses.
• Excellent communication skills with business subject matter experts, Data Stewards, technical collaborators, and regulators.
• Comfort in a player-coach role.
• Preferred: Experience in AI-related data governance.
• Preferred: Background in banking or regulated financial services.
• Preferred: Experience with data retention programs.
• Preferred: Familiarity with data quality monitoring tools like Monte Carlo, Bigeye, Anomalo, or similar.
• Preferred: Knowledge of data catalog tools such as Unity Catalog, Alation, Atlan, or Collibra, along with metadata management strategies.
• Preferred: Exposure to model risk management or SR 11-7.
• Preferred: Understanding of third-party risk management processes in the financial sector.
• Preferred: Experience supporting Data Science or Machine Learning teams.
