
Director – Build-Transfer Origination, Utility Partnerships

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Spearhead Hanwha Renewables’ build-transfer agreement (BTA) origination strategy in key U.S. utility markets and cultivate a sustainable pipeline of opportunities.
• Create and implement BTA commercialization strategies, which encompass utility prioritization, RFP participation, bilateral origination, structuring, pricing, negotiation, and execution.
• Establish and lead the internal BTA initiative, formulating commercial strategies, processes, market intelligence, utility account plans, and fostering cross-functional collaboration.
• Prepare and submit procurement responses from utilities, including BTA and asset-acquisition RFPs and RFIs for utility-scale solar, battery storage, and hybrid initiatives.
• Cultivate senior relationships with teams in utility procurement, resource planning, generation development, finance, tax, legal, regulatory, and executive domains.
• Oversee the negotiation of BTA term sheets, purchase and sale agreements, and associated commercial discussions with stakeholders from Development, M&A, Finance, Tax, Legal, Engineering, Interconnection, Construction, and executive teams.
• Convert utility buyer requirements into project-development criteria that encompass schedule, site control, permitting, interconnection, equipment, EPC, performance, tax-credit qualification, transfer mechanics, warranties, and risk allocation.
• Assess transaction economics from both developer and utility-owner perspectives, including tax credits, tax basis, depreciation, accounting treatment, rate-base implications, capital recovery, valuation, and approval factors.
• Track utility integrated resource plans, procurement strategies, regulatory filings, ownership preferences, capital plans, and RFP schedules to identify opportunities proactively.
• Collaborate with Project Development and M&A teams to identify, shape, acquire, or advance projects suitable for utility ownership, while providing Senior Management with strategic recommendations on market entry, project selection, pricing, and transaction strategies.
• Execute additional job-related tasks as assigned by management.
• A Bachelor’s Degree or higher in business, finance, economics, engineering, law, or a related discipline.
• Over 10 years of experience in utility renewable procurement, generation development, asset acquisition, structured energy transactions, commercial strategy, or similar roles.
• Strong preference for candidates with experience leading or significantly participating in renewable generation procurement, BTA transactions, asset acquisitions, or utility-owned generation investment decisions within a utility organization.
• A proven history of structuring, negotiating, evaluating, or executing utility-scale solar, battery storage, or hybrid asset transactions.
• Demonstrated understanding of the complete BTA lifecycle, from project qualification and utility solicitation through diligence, contracting, construction interfaces, tax-credit qualification, closing, and transfer to the utility.
• Working knowledge of federal renewable energy tax incentives, including ITC/PTC qualification, eligible tax basis, depreciation, domestic-content and energy-community considerations, and tax implications on BTA pricing and utility economics.
• Strong comprehension of utility procurement, integrated resource planning, regulatory approval, rate-base economics, capital budgeting, accounting, and governance processes.
• Established relationships with utility procurement, resource planning, generation, finance, tax, legal, and executive stakeholders are highly favored.
• Ability to lead complex cross-functional transactions and translate utility requirements into actionable commercial and development strategies.

• Willingness to travel up to 35% of the time within North America.
