This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take ownership of the creative vision from start to finish for each assigned video.
• Collaborate with the Snowball team to develop formats, mechanisms, and structures.
• Create and present detailed creative outlines that include intros, title cards, format beats, insights, and outros.
• Compile shot lists and establish the visual direction for filming locations.
• Participate in casting calls and ensure talent is aligned with creative needs and expectations.
• Identify props, set decorations, and on-set assets like clips, images, and music.
• Work alongside the Director of Photography (DP) to define the visual style and technical requirements for each shoot.
• Ensure that videos adhere to Snowball’s YouTube best practices concerning titles, thumbnails, hooks, value, retention, and insights.
• Conceptualize and implement creative enhancements and verify the inclusion of all necessary elements.
• Oversee all creative aspects on set.
• Develop paper-cuts and editing outlines.
• Guide editors through each cut while providing creative feedback.
• Integrate Snowball and brand-partner feedback in Frame.io within a day of receiving a cut.
• Maintain consistency across episodes, formats, and recurring series.
• Minimum of 5 years directing video content with a robust storytelling portfolio (required).
• Strong preference for candidates with YouTube experience.
• Demonstrated success in developing high-performing formats and creative concepts.
• In-depth understanding of YouTube pacing, structure, retention strategies, and platform best practices.
• Experience directing educational, narrative, branded, or documentary-style long-form content.
• Proven ability to run a set and direct talent, crew, and DPs effectively.
• Proficient in post-production processes, including paper-cuts, detailed edit notes, and guidance for editors.
• Ability to thrive in fast-paced environments with competing client priorities and tight deadlines.
• Excellent communication skills with producers, editors, strategists, and brand stakeholders.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills in managing pre-production documents, shot lists, and asset requirements.
• A passion for YouTube and an eagerness to learn about content performance.
