Digital Control Systems Engineering Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Utah.

📋 Description

• Lead and nurture a diverse project team across System Design, Integration, and Testing.

• Establish and implement the vision and operational framework for the Digital Control System Engineering organization.

• Foster technical excellence, collaboration, and a culture of continuous improvement.

• Oversee EHS/Safety initiatives and performance while ensuring adherence to GE policies and procedures.

• Confirm that engineering teams and subcontractors receive adequate training and possess necessary qualifications.

• Guarantee the consistent, high-quality delivery of engineering outputs.

• Evaluate and enhance automation portfolio alternatives, including DS Agile, IEMS, G500, GPG, and D20.

• Direct and assess project-critical design choices for technical compliance with standards and customer specifications.

• Assist in bid and project execution by outlining system-level concepts and integration strategies.

• Collaborate with global engineering teams, project management, and supply chain for system integration and commissioning handover.

• Propel design standardization, digital engineering tools, and best practices throughout the DCS domain.

• Develop succession planning and competency enhancement initiatives.

• Encourage talent development through coaching, technical training, and exposure across projects.

• Attract and retain high-caliber engineers.

• Assess and nurture external resource contractors.

• Collaborate with NPI, Tendering, and Regional Commercial teams on technical strategy and resource allocation.

• Provide tender estimates and feedback on project delivery.

• Represent Digital Control System Engineering in technical forums, client meetings, and audits.

• Manage the engineering team’s strategy, setup, KPIs, project engineering standards, resource utilization, and Substation Automation Services offerings.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.

• 8 years of experience in electricity and automation engineering, including distribution automation, substation digitization, diagnostics, APM, device management, and cybersecurity.

• 3 years of experience in designing and programming electrical control systems, including SCADA/HMI, IEC 61850, firewalls, cybersecurity, and networking.

• 5 years of experience in engineering team management.

• Proficient in English.

• Willingness to travel 30% within the US and Canada.

• Master’s degree in Engineering or Computer Science is preferred.

• Professional Engineering License is preferred.

• Familiarity with cyber asset protection regulations impacting the utilities sector, including NERC CIP and NIST.

• Understanding of network communication protocols such as Modbus, OPC (DA, AE, UA), DNP3, and IEC61850.

• Experience with smart grid technologies and renewable energy integration.

• Previous experience in a multicultural work environment.

• Legally authorized to work in the United States.

• Successful completion of a drug screening, if required.
