Department Chair, Health Administration and Nursing

📋 Description

• Offer visionary leadership for the Health Administration and Nursing Department, promoting a collaborative and academically challenging environment.

• Anticipate, design, and implement transformative models to improve and expand the programs, ensuring the department stays at the leading edge of healthcare education through innovative problem-solving and initiatives.

• Act as the academic leader for departmental programs, collaborating with faculty on curriculum management, student progression, and maintaining compliance with accreditation standards.

• Oversee all departmental faculty, which includes one contracted nursing faculty member serving as the DNP program director, two full-time health administration faculty, and several adjunct faculty, ensuring excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service.

• Supervise the DHA, MHA, and DNP programs and support the pursuit of CAHME accreditation for the MHA.

• Work in partnership with the CGHS dean, associate deans, and university leadership to align departmental objectives with the university's mission and strategic goals.

• Formulate and execute strategic plans for the department and its programs that align with college and university objectives, emphasizing program growth, new program creation, and operational efficiency.

• Effectively manage the department's budget and resources.

• Ensure compliance with all pertinent accreditation standards (CAHME, CCNE, HLC, where applicable), as well as institutional and departmental policies and procedures.

• Spearhead curriculum development and assessment initiatives across all programs within the department.

• Contribute to and enhance teaching, service, and scholarship within the department and the university.

• Promote efforts related to student recruitment, retention, and success.

• Evaluate educational outcomes to ensure continuous program development and enhancement.

• Represent the department and its programs in university, college, and external environments.

• Establish community partnerships and interdisciplinary connections to enrich program offerings and opportunities.

• Provide mentorship to students and faculty.

• Act as Chair of the department's Curriculum Committee and participate in other internal/external committees and task forces.

• Collaborate effectively with Instructional Designers, Academic Advisors, and Admissions teams to ensure high-quality curricula and student success.

• Stay informed about relevant industry trends, enrollment patterns, competitors, and the higher education landscape.

• Adhere to ATSU and CGHS policies and practices.

• Address student concerns and appeals at the departmental level.

• Engage in regular and productive communication with admissions and advising teams regarding program changes, key talking points, industry trends, and more.

• Exhibit high levels of accountability and self-motivation in a remote work environment while fostering strong leadership and a positive departmental work atmosphere for all employees.

• Interact collegially and professionally with all members of the CGHS and ATSU communities.

• Attend in-person college and university events as necessary (e.g., commencement, conferences, campus celebrations, regional meetings, etc.).

• Perform other duties as assigned.


⛳️ Requirements

• An academic doctorate in a health/healthcare field (PhD, DNP, DHA, etc.).

• A proven record of innovation and strategic thinking, with documented success in developing and implementing transformative educational models that enhance program growth, visibility, and academic excellence.

• C-suite leadership experience in a hospital, clinic, or healthcare-related administration, or substantial experience leading a health administration, nursing, or related academic department.

• At least 5 years of full-time experience in academic administration of a health professions program demonstrating effective leadership.

• A minimum of 7 years of full-time graduate teaching experience in Health Administration and/or Nursing.

• Experience in teaching online graduate courses.

• Proven experience in online curriculum development, curriculum mapping, and assessment.

• Strong understanding of accreditation standards and processes; experience with CCNE or CAHME accreditation is preferred.

• Demonstrated administrative experience in areas such as budget development and management; faculty recruitment and evaluation; strategic planning; conflict resolution; problem-solving; decision-making; and maintaining confidentiality.

• A solid record of scholarship, service, and teaching.

• Exceptional written, verbal, and non-verbal communication skills.

• Membership in relevant industry organizations (ACHE, AACN, ANA, etc.).

• Experience with CAHME and/or CCNE accreditation processes is highly desirable.

• A successful history of grant acquisition and management is preferred.
