This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.
• Oversee and provide support for the Microsoft SQL Server environment, which includes installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, and operational assistance.
• Uphold SQL Server high-availability and disaster-recovery setups, incorporating Always On availability groups and failover clustering.
• Monitor and optimize database performance through query optimization, indexing, statistics, and capacity planning.
• Manage database security, including logins, roles, and permissions, following least-privilege principles and audit standards.
• Design, execute, and sustain SQL Agent jobs, maintenance plans, and database integrity checks.
• Test and uphold backup and disaster-recovery procedures, including invocation testing, to fulfill contracted RPO/RTO commitments.
• Assist with database migrations and upgrades, particularly transitioning to Azure-native services.
• Administer Active Directory functions, including trusts, Kerberos delegation, SQL Server SPNs, service accounts, certificate services, and certificate lifecycle management.
• Manage and maintain Windows Server and IIS infrastructure.
• Keep software and associated components updated on Third Platform Services (TPS).
• Collaborate with information security to ensure database and server environments adhere to security policies, control frameworks, and audit requirements.
• Address identified risks and vulnerabilities.
• Respond to IT audit and customer due diligence requests, providing necessary supporting documentation.
• Oversee third-party vendors and suppliers, serving as a technical liaison, managing escalations, and coordinating change delivery.
• Create and update technical documentation, runbooks, and knowledgebase articles.
• Monitor and react to alerts from databases, infrastructure, and monitoring platforms.
• Conduct routine maintenance outside of regular hours and engage in occasional project work.
• Participate in database, infrastructure, and security projects as needed.
• Contribute to team planning efforts.
• Demonstrated experience in a comparable technical role, with a strong emphasis on Microsoft SQL Server database administration.
• Experience in an environment that provides and supports B2B customer-facing technology.
• Familiarity with working in a regulated or externally audited industry.
• Understanding of ISO 27001, SOC 2 / ISAE 3402 / AAF, CIS benchmarks/controls, or similar frameworks like NIST.
• Proficient in Microsoft SQL Server administration within production environments, preferably SQL Server 2022.
• Experience with installation and patching, backup/restore and point-in-time recovery, security/permissions, SQL Agent job management, and performance tuning.
• Strong proficiency in T-SQL.
• Solid Windows Server administration skills.
• Advanced knowledge of Active Directory administration, including trusts, Kerberos delegation, and certificate management.
• Familiarity with Windows-based IIS application administration.
• Experience with PowerShell scripting.
• Knowledge of backup and disaster recovery tools and methodologies.
• Exceptional documentation capabilities.
• Experience managing third-party vendors and suppliers.
• Desirable: Expertise in SQL Server high availability and disaster recovery design, including Always On availability groups, clustering, and log shipping.
• Desirable: Experience with Azure SQL Database and/or Azure SQL Managed Instance, including migration from SQL Server on VMs.
• Desirable: Basic knowledge of Microsoft Azure administration, covering VMs, storage, networking fundamentals, and resource management.
• Desirable: Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics CRM administration.
• Desirable: Knowledge of ADFS administration.
• Desirable: Experience with Redgate SQL Monitor or similar SQL monitoring tools.
• Desirable: Proficiency in PostgreSQL administration.
• Desirable: Experience with Microsoft BizTalk Server administration.
• Desirable: Experience with Microsoft SharePoint Server administration.
• Desirable: Knowledge of Fortinet/FortiGate firewall administration.
• Desirable: Familiarity with PRTG, Grafana, or similar monitoring platforms.
• Desirable: Experience with Atlassian Jira and Confluence.
• Desirable: Knowledge of payment/settlement gateways, trading interfaces, CASS, or similar financial-market infrastructure.
