Database Administrator – Oracle, MS SQL Server

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Set up, configure, patch, and upgrade Oracle 19c/21c and Microsoft SQL Server 2016–2022 environments on both Windows and Linux platforms.

• Execute database maintenance tasks including index rebuilds, statistics updates, tablespace management, and DBCC consistency checks.

• Oversee database storage, predict capacity needs, and plan for physical storage enhancements.

• Design, implement, and uphold backup and recovery protocols utilizing Oracle RMAN and native MS SQL Server tools.

• Configure and provide support for Oracle RAC, Oracle Data Guard, SQL Server AlwaysOn Availability Groups, and database mirroring.

• Carry out documented disaster recovery exercises to ensure RPO and RTO goals are met.

• Monitor database health and performance using OEM Cloud Control, SSMS, and SQL Server Profiler.

• Analyze execution plans and optimize SQL, PL/SQL, and T-SQL code for improved performance.

• Develop automated system scripts and enhance memory, CPU, and I/O efficiency across both OLTP and OLAP workloads.

• Enforce least-privilege access controls and establish database security protocols.

• Implement DISA STIGs and security checklists to reinforce database configurations.

• Manage encryption for both data at rest and in transit, configure auditing measures, and address any discovered vulnerabilities.

• Collaborate with system administrators, software engineers, and cybersecurity experts in a secure, high-availability environment.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Database Administration, or a related discipline; equivalent professional experience may be accepted.

• At least 5+ years of experience as a Database Administrator managing both Oracle and MS SQL Server database environments in an enterprise context.

• Demonstrated experience in configuring high-availability database solutions, including AlwaysOn, RAC, and Data Guard.

• Practical experience in executing database backup, recovery, patching, and version upgrades.

• Expert-level proficiency in SQL, T-SQL, and PL/SQL scripting.

• Strong scripting capabilities in PowerShell, Bash, or Python.

• Thorough understanding of database security standards, user management, and encryption protocols.

• Excellent analytical and troubleshooting abilities.

• Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills.

• Active DoD 8570.01-M / DoD 8140 Information Assurance Technical (IAT) Level II certification or higher, or a commitment to obtain it.

• U.S. citizenship is required.

• Must have Public Trust or favorably adjudicated Secret Clearance at the start.

• Compliance with government cybersecurity policies, OPSEC requirements, and system access regulations is essential.

• Preferred: experience in migrating databases to AWS RDS or Azure SQL Managed Instance.

• Preferred: familiarity with database virtualization and Docker/Kubernetes technologies.

• Preferred: experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies and DevSecOps practices.

• Preferred: administration experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, or NoSQL databases.

• Preferred: Oracle OCP or Microsoft Azure Database Administrator Associate (DP-300)/MCSA certification.
