Data & Analytics Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Design and develop contemporary data platforms utilizing Microsoft Fabric and Databricks.

• Construct and enhance data ingestion, transformation, and orchestration pipelines following ELT/ETL best practices.

• Create scalable lakehouse architectures that support analytics, reporting, and downstream data products.

• Convert business and analytical requirements into technical data models, including star schemas, semantic models, and lakehouse patterns.

• Write, optimize, and fine-tune SQL and Spark-based transformations for extensive analytical workloads.

• Implement version control, CI/CD concepts, and code review standards within data engineering workflows.

• Design and create intricate Power BI data models along with enterprise-grade semantic layers.

• Develop interactive reports and dashboards that facilitate impactful client decisions.

• Create, optimize, and peer-review DAX formulas for both accuracy and performance.

• Integrate various data sources into Power BI utilizing SQL for effective extraction and transformation.

• Ensure data quality, reliability, and usability throughout the analytics platform.

• Empower self-service analytics by providing trusted datasets and dashboards to client business teams.

• Collect requirements from client stakeholders, convey technical concepts, and manage expectations.

• Provide guidance to clients on Power BI solutions and data platform choices.

• Investigate emerging tools and trends in the industry.

• Assist marketing and business development initiatives as a technical resource.

• Conduct training and support platform adoption and transitions.

• Foster strong client relationships while proactively recognizing opportunities to enhance value.

• Collaborate with project managers, architects, and consultants to ensure alignment of technical delivery with project objectives.

• Guarantee that solutions adhere to performance, scalability, security, and maintainability standards.

• Contribute to documentation, reusable patterns, knowledge sharing, data platform standards, and post-project evaluations.

• Maintain a minimum utilization rate of 75%.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.

• Over 5 years of combined experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, and/or BI consulting.

• Hands-on production experience with Microsoft Fabric and/or Databricks; both are strongly preferred.

• Advanced expertise in Power BI, encompassing complex data modeling, DAX authoring, and performance optimization.

• Experience in Power BI dataset modeling at an enterprise scale, including embedding/API scenarios.

• Strong SQL capabilities, including performance tuning and analytical query design.

• Experience in designing analytics data models, such as star schemas, semantic models, and lakehouse architectures.

• Ability to integrate data from various sources into data platforms and BI tools.

• Demonstrated client-facing consulting experience, working autonomously and managing stakeholder expectations.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills; data-driven, precise, and client-ready style.

• Preferred: experience in migrating or modernizing legacy data warehouses to lakehouse architectures.

• Preferred: experience in integrating data platforms with downstream applications or external APIs.

• Preferred: consulting experience across multiple clients, industries, or verticals.

• Preferred: relevant certifications such as Azure Solutions Architect, Azure Data Engineer, Microsoft Fabric DP-600/DP-700, or Databricks certifications.

• Preferred: exposure to advanced analytics use cases, including AI/ML model integration, predictive dashboards, or advanced statistical analysis.
