Criminal Defense Paralegal

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colombia.

📋 Description

• Support attorneys in trial preparation by organizing case files and performing thorough legal research.

• Prepare legal documents, such as pleadings, motions, and client correspondence related to criminal defense cases.

• Examine and summarize evidence, including police reports and witness statements, to reinforce case strategies.

• Maintain a well-organized case management system, ensuring all documentation is filed correctly and easily accessible.

• Liaise with clients, witnesses, and experts to facilitate case progression.

• Coordinate exhibits and organize materials necessary for trial preparations.

• Conduct legal research to support case development and strategic planning efforts.

• Assist with administrative responsibilities, including billing and case management tasks as needed.

⛳️ Requirements

• Associate's degree or equivalent experience in a legal environment.

• 2-3 years of experience as a paralegal, particularly in criminal defense is highly preferred.

• Strong understanding of criminal law and relevant legal principles.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and legal research tools.

• Outstanding organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.

• Proficiency in English is mandatory.

• Knowledge of US criminal law at both state and federal levels.

• At least one year of experience in a law office or legal setting.

• Strong writing and drafting capabilities.

• Experience with CLIO Manage software is advantageous.

• Excellent customer service skills.

• Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

• Familiarity with case management software is a bonus.
