Counsel – Affirmative Litigation

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Assess and evaluate new recovery referrals for legal merit, damages, collectability, and cost-benefit feasibility.

• Take ownership of recovery cases from initial evaluation to final resolution.

• Oversee demands, negotiations, litigation, arbitration, and settlements.

• Manage recovery cases including subrogation, mass tort claims, product recall recoveries, restitution, small provider and pharmacy recoveries, breach of contract, and fraud recoveries.

• Collaborate with outside counsel on strategies, review work products, oversee budgets, and evaluate performance.

• Work alongside business leaders, legal colleagues, investigators, and others to pinpoint recovery-eligible cases.

• Update internal stakeholders on case status, strategies, and outcomes.

• Occasionally travel to Humana offices for training sessions or meetings.

⛳️ Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree from a law school accredited by the ABA.

• Active and licensed member of a state bar association.

• Minimum of 5 years of litigation experience, with substantial experience managing cases from intake to resolution.

• Proven ability to organize and handle a substantial caseload with multiple concurrent matters.

• Excellent skills in conveying complex legal issues to various stakeholders.

• Capacity to work independently with general supervision as well as in team environments.

• Experience in healthcare payor recoveries, Medicare Advantage, or managed care litigation.

• Familiarity with e-discovery and experience in large-scale discovery processes.

• Minimum download speed of 25 Mbps and upload speed of 10 Mbps for home or hybrid work environments.
