This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
β’ Act as embedded legal counsel for Product, Engineering, and Payments, offering guidance on new features, AI-driven tools, pricing strategies, and payment integrations from ideation to launch.
β’ Take ownership of the legal assessment for AI-centric products and features, covering aspects such as training data sourcing, model risk, algorithmic decision-making, and necessary disclosures.
β’ Provide advice on regulatory adherence for payments and fintech-related products, encompassing embedded payments, money transfers, card network regulations, and PCI-DSS considerations.
β’ Develop and sustain components of the product privacy program, including practices for data collection and retention, consumer disclosures, and compliance with CCPA/CPRA and other state privacy regulations.
β’ Keep abreast of evolving AI regulations, including state AI laws, FTC guidelines, and pertinent international frameworks, and convert them into actionable product advice.
β’ Draft and negotiate agreements with technology, data, and AI vendors, including terms for data and model licensing.
β’ Counsel on compliance with digital accessibility requirements, including ADA Title III risks and WCAG standards.
β’ Collaborate with the General Counsel and business teams on regulatory risk evaluations for new markets, products, and features.
β’ Create scalable playbooks, templates, and self-service tools for product and engineering teams.
β’ Assist with privacy or AI-related incident responses across engineering, security, and communications.
β’ Oversee external counsel on specific regulatory, payments, or AI issues as necessary.
β’ Report directly to the Head of Legal and be an early member of the Legal team with substantial responsibility for compliant product development.
β’ Juris Doctor (J.D.) and active bar membership in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
β’ Over 6 years of legal experience with significant in-house product counsel experience within a technology company.
β’ Direct expertise in advising on AI/ML products, along with a solid understanding of the emerging AI regulatory environment.
β’ Background in fintech or payments products, including embedded payments, money transfers, card issuance, or similar areas.
β’ In-depth knowledge of privacy laws, including CCPA/CPRA, GDPR, and comprehensive state privacy regulations.
β’ Experience in restaurant technology, hospitality tech, or vertical SaaS is strongly preferred.
β’ Proven ability to create processes, playbooks, and standards.
β’ Skill in translating complex legal and regulatory requirements into clear, actionable guidance for product and engineering teams.
