This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Supervise daily operations of the accounting team, which includes accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll.
• Oversee the month-end and year-end closing processes.
• Guarantee accurate and timely financial reporting.
• Take ownership of revenue recognition for subscription products, earned revenue, contributions, and grants.
• Consistently apply ASC 606 and ASC 958 standards.
• Ensure precise deferred revenue balances and determinations between contributions and exchange transactions.
• Manage accounting for grants and contracts.
• Monitor net assets both with and without donor restrictions, including the release of restrictions.
• Prepare budget-to-actual reporting for funders, ensuring compliance with grant terms and federal awards.
• Compile monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Coordinate external audits, sales tax filings, and regulatory compliance obligations.
• Oversee treasury operations, cash forecasting, banking relationships, and support for investment/reserve policies.
• Develop and uphold accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
• Assess workflows, automate and optimize manual processes, and utilize system tools and AI.
• Provide financial analysis and insights to aid strategic decision-making and business planning.
• Lead and mentor a team of accounting professionals.
• Collaborate across different departments to enhance processes and efficiency.
• Stay updated on accounting standards, regulations, and best practices, implementing necessary changes.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
• 12 years of pertinent accounting experience.
• At least 5 years of experience supervising or managing staff in an accounting or finance setting.
• CPA certification is preferred.
• Familiarity with SaaS and subscription accounting.
• Knowledge of ASC 606 revenue recognition for multi-year and multi-element subscription agreements.
• Understanding of deferred revenue and billing schedules.
• Knowledge of capitalization of internal-use and cloud software costs under ASC 350-40.
• Strong grasp of nonprofit accounting principles, practices, and financial controls.
• Experience in preparing or reviewing Form 990 is preferred.
• Proficient in accounting system software.
• Experience with NetSuite, Salesforce, Stripe, UltiPro, Avalara, Tipalti, Nexonia, and PBCS is a plus.
• Advanced skills in Excel.
• Experience utilizing AI to enhance procedures.
• Exceptional analytical, quantitative, forecasting, and financial modeling abilities.
• Capability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and succeed in a deadline-driven environment.
• Solution-oriented problem solver and self-starter with a high level of integrity.
• Adaptable and responsive to shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Outstanding presentation, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Willingness to undertake additional duties and special projects as required.
