This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +1 more country.
• Develop and document accounting policies and procedures that adhere to GAAP and SaaS best practices.
• Manage the general ledger, chart of accounts, monthly and annual closings, account reconciliations, accruals, consolidations, and the preparation of financial statements.
• Establish and sustain the close calendar, review standards, documentation requirements, and ownership responsibilities across the accounting team.
• Oversee revenue recognition for subscription-based, usage-based, and credit-based contracts in compliance with ASC 606.
• Reconcile billing information, cash collections, deferred revenue, recognized revenue, and definitions of company ARR.
• Manage accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash accounting, expense controls, fixed assets, and other essential accounting functions.
• Direct multi-state sales tax compliance, encompassing nexus monitoring, registrations, filings, reconciliations, and exposure assessments.
• Supervise accounting system architecture, integrations, data quality, and the accounting roadmap.
• Prepare the organization for financial statement audits, quality of earnings assessments, lender or investor inquiries, and transaction due diligence.
• Collaborate with the COO and FP&A or business leaders on reporting, cash visibility, forecasting inputs, and decision-making support.
• Handle significant accounting judgments and estimates, draft technical memos, and escalate material or novel judgments as necessary.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a two-person accounting team.
• Identify risks proactively, articulate business impacts, and propose practical solutions.
• A minimum of eight years of progressive accounting experience, including substantial ownership in a SaaS, subscription, usage-based, or similarly complex recurring-revenue environment.
• An active CPA designation in the United States or Canada, or an equivalent designation deemed acceptable for the role's jurisdiction.
• Proven experience managing the general ledger, closings, reconciliations, financial statements, and internal controls.
• Extensive knowledge of ASC 606, with the ability to draft and defend a technical accounting memo.
• Experience with multi-state sales tax regulations.
• Familiarity with financial statement audits, quality of earnings reviews, financing due diligence processes, or strategic transactions.
• Experience leading a small accounting team while also being willing and capable of performing detailed work personally.
• Strong written judgment: ability to identify issues, distinguish facts from assumptions, explain risks, and recommend decisions.
• Preferred: experience in a bootstrapped, profitable, founder-led, or private-equity-ready software company with an ARR between USD 10 million and USD 50 million.
• Preferred: experience with accounting for monthly and annual billing models.
• Preferred: experience linking billing systems, payment processors, CRM data, revenue schedules, and the general ledger.
• Preferred: experience in selecting or implementing an ERP, close management, billing, revenue automation, or sales tax software.
• Preferred: cross-border accounting experience involving both Canada and the United States.
• Preferred: experience enhancing diligence readiness or supporting an acquisition, recapitalization, or other strategic initiatives.
• Work hours must overlap by at least 3 hours with Las Vegas, NV, USA.
