This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom, +1 more state.
• Oversee technical initiatives for submarine customer prospects throughout tender, contract, bid, and clarification phases.
• Conduct technology workshops, demonstrations, trials, proof-of-concepts, and technical discussions that align with customer needs.
• Design and validate submarine network architectures, solution designs, equipment layouts, test plans, procedures, and documentation intended for customers.
• Create RFx responses, solution cost models, pricing schedules, and engineering documentation to support sales opportunities.
• Assess technology options and network design trade-offs to meet both technical and commercial goals.
• Collaborate with sales engineering, account management, product management, R&D, partners, and technical teams to capitalize on opportunities and facilitate market readiness.
• Suggest product improvements and new features based on customer needs and field insights.
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field is required.
• A Master’s degree is preferred.
• Over 10 years of experience in the telecommunications sector, particularly with DWDM (Layer 0) optical transmission systems, optical engineering principles, technologies, instrumentation, and testing methods.
• A minimum of 5 years in a submarine-specific role, directly involved in an upgrade project, including the application of submarine SLTE and SIE solutions.
• Proficient in Converged Optical Ethernet (Layer 1/2/3), including OTN, Carrier Ethernet, and IP.
• Experience using Layer 0 optical test equipment such as OSA, SONET/SDH/Ethernet/OTN test sets, and OTDR.
• Knowledge in applying optical test equipment, link budgeting concepts, and fiber-optic impairment analysis, including attenuation, CD, and FWM.
• Familiarity with 100G, 400G, 800G, and higher-rate coherent optical technologies and modulation techniques.
• Must be located in and authorized to work in the EMEA region, Europe, or the UK.
• Experience with consortium upgrade projects is preferred.
• Experience in developing network cost models is preferred.
• Understanding of data center architectures, spine-and-leaf designs, edge networking, and optical transport is preferred.
• Experience with automation software architectures, common workflows, ZTP methods, DCN networking, APIs, and networking models is preferred.
• Familiarity with cloud architectures and cloud application deployment is preferred.
• Experience in creating product feature and price analysis spreadsheets is preferred.
• Knowledge of Ciena Submarine Solutions is preferred.
