Conservation Director – Brazilian Amazon

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Brazil.

📋 Description

• Define, lead, and take responsibility for the strategic outcomes of a portfolio of conservation initiatives in the Brazilian Amazon.

• Direct the execution of the Brazilian Amazon strategy and Theory of Change.

• Provide guidance on strategy, prioritization of initiatives, resource distribution, organizational structure, and capacity enhancement.

• Be accountable for achieving strategic results, impact metrics, and operational performance.

• Lead, mentor, and assess the performance of managers, coordinators, and interdisciplinary teams.

• Manage financial resources and oversee program budgets.

• Ensure effective program governance, monitoring, evaluation, learning, and ongoing adaptation.

• Build and sustain strategic partnerships with governments, civil society organizations, the private sector, academia, local communities, and funding entities.

• Spearhead or assist in fundraising initiatives.

• Represent TNC in institutional forums, negotiations, and decision-making platforms.

• Influence public policy, decision-making processes, and governance frameworks.

• Foster multisector collaboration to enhance the scale, effectiveness, and sustainability of conservation outcomes.

• Travel domestically and internationally as necessary to meet programmatic and strategic objectives.

• Work under diverse weather and terrain conditions, including in remote and physically demanding locations.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree accompanied by 10 years of experience in natural resource management, public policy, economics, or related disciplines.

• Proficiency in English, both spoken and written, at an advanced level.

• Proven experience in leading management teams, including the supervision of managers and multidisciplinary groups.

• Significant experience in strategy formulation, portfolio management, prioritization, and strategic decision-making.

• Background in establishing partnerships with NGOs, the private sector, community organizations, and/or government bodies; conducting intricate negotiations; and managing relationships with funders.

• Experience in executing complex negotiations.

• Proficient in managing the financial aspects and budgets of large-scale programs.

• Experience in designing and executing strategies across extensive landscapes.

• Familiarity with government relations and the implementation of public policy.

• The chosen candidate must fulfill the requirements of The Nature Conservancy's background screening process.
