This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +3 more states.
• Conduct swift community evaluations in disaster-affected regions to identify pressing food requirements.
• Establish connections with impacted communities and nurture culturally sensitive relationships.
• Recruit, train, lead, and oversee community outreach teams that are locally driven.
• Direct frontline relief efforts and execute flexible response strategies in disaster and conflict zones.
• Respond to disaster sites within four hours’ notice, managing on-the-ground operations or, on rare occasions, remotely.
• Collect beneficiary feedback and suggest adjustments for response scope, scaling up, or winding down strategies.
• Provide consistent operational updates to the Response Director during activations and report to the Unit Director outside of activation periods.
• Collaborate with various WCK departments, including finance, procurement, and logistics teams.
• Share cost estimates for outreach operations and organize the sourcing and delivery of necessary supplies.
• Handle personnel matters, performance evaluations, mentoring, training, and professional growth.
• Ensure seamless transitions and handovers between activation managers and rotating response teams.
• Complete after-action evaluations and identify opportunities for process enhancements.
• Represent World Central Kitchen to beneficiaries, partners, and the media as necessary.
• Ability to spend up to 70% of time in the field; typical activation lasts four weeks, potentially longer.
• Must reside within one hour of an international airport or be open to relocating.
• Willingness and capability to travel frequently to remote and potentially dangerous areas with four hours’ notice.
• Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent experience preferred, or 5+ years of experience in management roles, ideally in fast-paced, dynamic environments.
• Proven experience in leading, training, and coaching large teams in challenging and rapidly changing settings.
• Ability to distill substantial amounts of information into actionable steps under pressure.
• Capacity to work independently with limited infrastructure and resources.
• Willingness to operate in demanding environments with austere living conditions.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with others and follow directions to ensure the safety of yourself and the team.
• Demonstrated negotiation and diplomacy skills in complex and potentially volatile scenarios.
• Calm and composed demeanor during crises, with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
• Physical fitness and endurance to work long hours performing physically demanding tasks in varied and potentially extreme climates.
• Strong mental resilience and emotional intelligence for functioning in conflict environments.
• Cultural awareness and sensitivity are essential.
• Fluency in English is required; additional languages such as Spanish, French, or Portuguese are highly desirable.
• Must possess a valid Driver's License.
• Must hold a valid Passport.
