📋 Description

• Design and implement the global category strategy for fabricated metal, metal assembly, injection molding, finishing and coatings, and fasteners and hardware.

• Take charge of Tonal's supplier strategy: identify potential candidates, create landed-cost business cases, qualify suppliers, and oversee transfers.

• Direct the selection and qualification of suppliers across North America and Asia.

• Monitor supplier performance using scorecards and conduct business reviews.

• Collaborate with Manufacturing Quality to recommend the approved vendor list.

• Negotiate pricing for pieces, tooling, NRE, long-term agreements, and payment terms.

• Maintain a continuous cost-reduction roadmap.

• Develop should-cost models and negotiate based on them.

• Organize and manage index-based pricing for steel, aluminum, and resin.

• Oversee Tonal tooling assets, registers, capacity, cavitation, press-size decisions, second-tool/refurbishment triggers, and capital plans.

• Work closely with Mechanical Engineering on DFM, tolerances, finish specifications, and material selection.

• Ensure dual-source and regional coverage for the top 80% of category expenditure.

• Collaborate with the contract manufacturer in Guadalajara on capacity, yield, scrap, and process costs.

• Guide contract-manufacturer purchasing to adhere to negotiated prices and assist in quarterly BOM audits for quoted versus paid.

• Assist in APQP, PPAP, FAI, and tool sign-off with Manufacturing Quality.

• Facilitate new product introduction through quoting, tooling timelines, and material availability during ramp-up.

• Partner with trade compliance on regional content, duty, and USMCA qualification of localized components.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical or manufacturing engineering, business, or a related field.

• 7–10 years of commodity management or sourcing experience in fabricated metal and/or plastics, preferably in a hardware product company or contract manufacturer.

• Extensive process knowledge in at least two of the following areas: stamping and die tooling, CNC machining, tube fabrication and welding, injection molding and mold tooling, or finishing and coatings.

• Proven track record of managing a tooling portfolio, including tool builds, capital approvals, capacity and cavitation decisions, and tool transfers between suppliers.

• Demonstrated ability to construct a bottom-up should-cost model and negotiate against it, including index-linked pricing structures.

• Experience in developing or transitioning supply to Mexico or another near-shore region, including the landed-cost case that justified such actions.

• Comfortable functioning as the commercial lead in a directed-buy model.

• Capable of interpreting drawings, discussing GD&T and finish specifications, and engaging in technical conversations on the shop floor.

• Excellent written and verbal communication in English; proficiency in Spanish is a significant advantage.

• Experience working across US, Mexico, Taiwan, and China time zones with minimal supervision.

• Willingness to travel approximately 30–40% of the time, including regular trips to Guadalajara.

• Familiarity with USMCA regional value content and its duty implications is a plus.

• Background in mold flow, die design, or tool-and-die shop-floor operations is a plus.

• An MBA or Master's degree in Supply Chain is considered an advantage.

🏝️ Benefits

• Travel expectation of 20-30%.

• Accommodation requests will be addressed in accordance with Tonal’s Accessibility Policy and local legislation.
