COBOL Developer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Maintain, enhance, and provide support for business applications developed in COBOL.

• Write and modify code in COBOL, COBOL Language Extender (COBOL LE), and IBM MVS JCL.

• Utilize DISA Multi-host Internet Access Portal (MIAP) and Reflection ZFE for 3270 terminal emulation.

• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues with guidance from senior team members.

• Create and update technical documentation, including application operating and installation guides, interface diagrams, product design documentation, and Interface Control Documents for CDRS.

• Conduct code testing and take part in code reviews.

• Support FTP and SFTP transmission processes.

• Implement Help Desk solutions for Level II and III tickets.

• Apply STIGs to applications as instructed to ensure compliance.

• Monitor database load and manage interface applications.

• Provide technical support for the maintenance of data and associated software modules.

• Work with Change Requests and Deficiency Reports in ISMT.

• Assist with system releases, including the preparation of documentation.

• Engage in team meetings and scrum ceremonies.

• Develop test cases and contribute to test reports and summaries.

• Carry out additional tasks as assigned by the leadership team.

⛳️ Requirements

• Active Secret Clearance.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).

• Over 8 years of experience in COBOL programming.

• At least 4 years of experience with JCL, VSAM, DB2, and CICS.

• Proficient with mainframe debugging tools and utilities.

• Experience with DISA mainframe environments is preferred.

• Current CompTIA Security+ Certification.

• Working knowledge of COBOL, IBM MVS JCL, and related mainframe technologies.

• Familiarity with mainframe terminal emulation tools.

• Understanding of mainframe architecture and operating systems (z/OS, MVS).

• Experience with batch processing and online transaction processing.

• Ability to analyze and resolve technical issues with assistance.

• Knowledge of STIG compliance requirements.

• Familiarity with FTP and SFTP protocols.

• Experience with Help Desk ticketing systems.

• Capability to create and maintain technical documentation.

• Basic experience in database monitoring and data extraction.

• Understanding of software development methodologies.

• Strong debugging and problem-solving abilities.

• Ability to collaborate effectively as part of a team.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Effective time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
