COBOL Developer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Maintain, enhance, and provide support for business applications developed in COBOL

• Write and modify COBOL code, COBOL Language Extender (COBOL LE), and IBM MVS JCL

• Utilize DISA Multi-host Internet Access Portal (MIAP) and Reflection ZFE for 3270 terminal emulation

• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues under the guidance of senior team members

• Develop and sustain technical documentation, including application operating instructions, installation guidelines, interface diagrams, product design documentation, and Interface Control Documents for CDRS

• Conduct code testing and engage in code review processes

• Support FTP and SFTP transmission activities

• Implement Help Desk resolutions for Level II and III support tickets

• Apply STIGs to applications as instructed to ensure compliance

• Monitor database load and interface applications

• Offer technical support for the maintenance of data and associated software modules

• Collaborate with Change Requests and Deficiency Reports in ISMT

• Assist with system releases, including the preparation of documentation

• Participate in team meetings and scrum ceremonies

• Develop test cases and aid in test reports and summaries

• Carry out additional responsibilities as assigned by the leadership team

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience)

• Over 8 years of experience in COBOL programming

• More than 4 years of experience with JCL, VSAM, DB2, and CICS

• Proficiency with mainframe debugging tools and utilities

• Experience with DISA mainframe environments is preferred

• Current CompTIA Security+ Certification

• Active secret security clearance

• Proficient understanding of COBOL, IBM MVS JCL, and associated mainframe technologies

• Familiarity with mainframe terminal emulation tools

• Comprehension of mainframe architecture and operating systems (z/OS, MVS)

• Experience in batch processing and online transaction processing

• Capability to analyze and resolve technical issues with assistance

• Knowledge of STIG compliance requirements

• Proficiency with FTP and SFTP protocols

• Familiarity with Help Desk ticketing systems

• Ability to create and maintain technical documentation

• Basic experience in database monitoring and data extraction

• Understanding of software development methodologies

• Strong debugging and problem-solving abilities

• Ability to collaborate effectively within a team

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Strong time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines
