Cloud GIS Administrator – Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.

📋 Description

• Administer, configure, and optimize ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise across Windows, Linux, and Kubernetes within cloud-hosted environments.

• Enhance and support ArcGIS Enterprise architectures on EC2 and in containerized Kubernetes deployments.

• Manage requests, incidents, and changes for federal geospatial hosting clients in a ticket-driven support framework.

• Lead the design, deployment, and maintenance of cloud infrastructure utilizing AWS, Azure, or other major cloud providers.

• Implement and sustain infrastructure-as-code solutions like Terraform/Terragrunt for automated provisioning and configuration.

• Design, implement, and support CI/CD pipelines for ArcGIS Enterprise configurations, custom extensions, and infrastructure.

• Assist with ArcGIS for Kubernetes deployments, including cluster configuration, scaling, monitoring, and troubleshooting.

• Collaborate with cloud and security teams to ensure compliance with federal security requirements.

• Diagnose issues across application, operating system, network, and cloud layers; perform root cause analysis and long-term fixes.

• Create and maintain architectures, standard operating procedures (SOPs), runbooks, and configuration baselines.

• Collect requirements, propose solutions, and implement changes with internal and client stakeholders under formal change management procedures.

• Participate in on-call or after-hours maintenance as necessary.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, GIS, Engineering, or a related field; alternatively, 4 additional years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

• Over 5 years of experience administering ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise in a production setting, including ArcGIS Server, Portal for ArcGIS, ArcGIS Data Store, and associated components.

• Experience in administration on both Windows and Linux platforms.

• At least 3 years as a Cloud Engineer with experience in at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, GCP).

• Experience in provisioning and managing compute, storage, and network resources.

• Experience with monitoring, logging, and backup strategies for cloud-hosted workloads.

• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, Terragrunt, CloudFormation, or ARM, with the capability to design and maintain production IaC solutions.

• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines including GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, or Azure DevOps, covering source control, testing, and deployment integration.

• Over 2 years of experience with Kubernetes, ideally in production, including cluster configuration, management, and troubleshooting.

• Experience in deploying and managing containerized applications.

• Familiarity with ticket-based support systems like Jira or ServiceNow, with experience in managing incidents, service requests, and changes.

• Strong understanding of DNS, load balancing, firewalls, VPCs, and routing for cloud-hosted applications and ArcGIS Enterprise.

• Capability to work independently and juggle multiple priorities and deadlines.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills suitable for both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Preferred: practical experience in deployment, administration, and troubleshooting of ArcGIS Enterprise on Kubernetes.

• Preferred: knowledge of ArcGIS for Kubernetes architecture, scaling, and operational best practices.

• Preferred: hands-on experience with Terraform/Terragrunt for complex, multi-environment cloud infrastructure.

• Preferred: familiarity with Git workflows, including branching, pull requests, and code reviews.

• Preferred: implementation of GitHub Actions or GitLab CI for infrastructure and application deployments.

• Preferred: understanding of AWS cloud networking, including private/public subnets, security groups/NSGs, peering, and performance optimization.

• Preferred: experience designing scalable, highly available ArcGIS Enterprise architectures for federal or large enterprises.

• Preferred: integration of ArcGIS Enterprise with external identity providers, databases, and application stacks.

• Preferred: experience with Jira for incident, change, and problem management.

• Preferred: familiarity with workflows, dashboards, and reporting for queues and SLAs.

• Preferred certifications: AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or Esri geospatial administration or management certification.
