Cloud Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maryland, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, test, and deploy AWS cloud infrastructure and application services that support secure, scalable, and highly available mission platforms.

• Create and manage containerized services utilizing Kubernetes and other cloud-native technologies.

• Establish repeatable Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD workflows.

• Integrate data and application services through APIs, message or event flows, and structured data sources.

• Implement cloud security practices encompassing identity, networking, secrets management, encryption, logging, vulnerability management, and least-privilege access.

• Monitor services and infrastructure for health, performance, and operational insights.

• Troubleshoot issues in distributed systems and facilitate root-cause analysis.

• Collaborate with architects, software engineers, data specialists, security teams, and customer stakeholders.

• Produce architecture documentation, runbooks, deployment guidance, and maintainable technical documentation.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Cloud Engineering, or a related technical field, with at least 4 years of relevant experience.

• Proven experience in designing, deploying, and managing scalable, highly available, and fault-tolerant systems in AWS using services such as EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, IAM, CloudFormation, and CloudWatch.

• Practical experience with Kubernetes and container ecosystems, including Docker or OCI images, deployments, services, ingress, configuration, and troubleshooting.

• Experience in building CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, GitHub Actions, or AWS CodePipeline, including automated validation and promotion across environments.

• Proficient in Infrastructure as Code utilizing Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, or similar tools.

• Familiarity with AWS networking, including VPCs, subnets, routing, security groups, network access controls, load balancing, and private connectivity patterns.

• Experience in implementing cloud security controls for identity and access management, encryption, secrets, logging, monitoring, and auditability in a compliance-oriented environment.

• Ability to diagnose failures in distributed systems using logs, metrics, traces, and other operational signals.

• Capability to work independently while cooperating with multidisciplinary teams and customer organizations.

• Must be a U.S. Citizen as per contract requirements.

• Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Clearance in alignment with contract requirements.

• Experience in designing or supporting data integration workflows and services that handle JSON, XML, or other structured formats.

• Knowledge of AWS services such as EKS, ECR, API Gateway, Step Functions, EventBridge, SQS, SNS, Secrets Manager, KMS, Kafka or MSK, and Systems Manager.

• Familiarity with GitOps, policy as code, automated security scanning, software supply-chain controls, and immutable or repeatable deployment practices.

• Experience in supporting platform operations in environments characterized by segmented networks, strict access controls, limited connectivity, or formal change-management processes.

• Ability to translate mission or operational requirements into technical designs, implementation plans, and measurable acceptance criteria.

• Experience with C3.ai will be viewed favorably.

• An active Public Trust Clearance is preferred.

• Candidates located in the Washington, DC metro area are preferred.

• AWS certification, such as Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer, or Security Specialty, is preferred.
