Senior Cloud & Platform Engineer – AWS, Kubernetes

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Portugal.

📋 Description

• Design, manage, and continuously enhance production cloud infrastructure, primarily utilizing AWS.

• Evaluate current cloud environments, identify architectural or operational deficiencies, and suggest practical enhancements.

• Work extensively with Kubernetes in live production settings, contributing to platform architecture, reliability, and scalability.

• Construct and uphold infrastructure through Terraform and other Infrastructure-as-Code methodologies.

• Develop and refine infrastructure automation, including configuration management using tools like Ansible.

• Enhance platform reliability, resilience, observability, and security.

• Identify opportunities to minimize manual operational tasks through automation.

• Participate in cloud and Kubernetes architectural decisions and promote relevant engineering best practices.

• Assist in troubleshooting, incident investigation, and root-cause analysis across production systems.

• Create scripts and internal automation using languages such as Python, Bash, Java, or similar where applicable.

• Engage in technical discussions with customers, translating requirements and infrastructure topics into clear technical solutions.

• Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure infrastructure and reliability considerations are integrated throughout the development lifecycle.

• Share knowledge, constructively challenge existing methodologies, and help elevate engineering standards across the team.

⛳️ Requirements

• Senior-level experience in Cloud, Platform, DevOps, Infrastructure, or Site Reliability Engineering.

• Strong practical expertise with AWS, encompassing a broad understanding of AWS architecture and best practices.

• Capability to assess an existing AWS environment and independently recommend improvements in architecture, reliability, automation, or security.

• Advanced production experience with Kubernetes is essential.

• Robust hands-on experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code.

• Familiarity with infrastructure and configuration automation; Ansible is particularly relevant.

• Strong grasp of production infrastructure, scalability, availability, and reliability principles.

• Experience with monitoring, observability, and troubleshooting in distributed production environments.

• Understanding of best practices in cloud and infrastructure security.

• Experience with CI/CD and contemporary cloud-native delivery methods.

• Scripting or programming skills for infrastructure automation; deep software engineering expertise is not mandatory.

• Experience addressing production issues and conducting structured root-cause analysis.

• Ability to take ownership, recognize weaknesses, and proactively implement improvements rather than merely maintaining existing systems.

• Strong communication abilities and confidence in engaging in customer-facing technical discussions.

• Professional working proficiency in English (C1+).
