Clinic/Outpatient Coder II

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +15 more states.

📋 Description

• Execute coding procedures and diagnoses utilizing ICD-10-CM and CPT classification systems in alignment with official coding guidelines, CMS regulations, payer rules and policies, and Mosaic compliance standards.

• Engage in online educational sessions, workshops, conferences, and/or in-services while maintaining records of participation.

• Liaise with providers to ensure documentation specificity through effective communication and queries.

• Collaborate with Patient Financial Services, Revenue Integrity, or other departments to verify and adjust charges and coding.

• Ensure the accuracy of State HIDI data and other claims by addressing edits.

• Address specialty care claims rejections or denials.

• Support the training of newly hired coders.

• Carry out other assigned responsibilities.

• Code outpatient services, which include emergency room visits, injections and infusions, non-complex outpatient surgeries, and obstetric observation.

• Code for multiple specialties or non-complex surgical specialties.


⛳️ Requirements

• Candidates must reside in Alabama, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, Nebraska, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah, or Virginia.

• A high school diploma is mandatory.

• Knowledge of Medical Terminology and Anatomy and Physiology is required.

• Completion of coding education is essential.

• A minimum of 2 years of coding experience is required.

• 3 years of coding experience may be considered in lieu of coding education.

• One of the following certifications is required upon hire: CCS, RHIA, RHIT, CPC, CCS-P, or COC.

• Must successfully complete the Epic Healthcare Assessment within 5 business days of hire.

• Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, pathophysiology, and coding guidelines is necessary.

• Capability to input and retrieve data, articulate clearly, write effectively, and perform precise hand/eye coordination and fine motor tasks.

• Ability to analyze chart data and encoder instructions, interpret physician documentation, maintain focus for extended periods, and visualize/interpret patient records.

• Flexibility in hours and workflow, coupled with the ability to work amidst interruptions.

• Regular capacity to sit, reach, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
