Outpatient Professional Coder

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ohio, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Perform coding and validation of outpatient professional encounters across various VA clinical specialties.

• Assign codes including ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, modifiers, and E/M levels.

• Evaluate documentation, medical necessity, code sequencing, and coding requirements specific to specialties.

• Code for clinic, emergency, diagnostic, procedural, and other designated professional encounters.

• Submit accurate provider queries and address incomplete or conflicting documentation.

• Rectify claim edits, coding denials, audit findings, and any identified data quality issues.

• Adhere to contract standards regarding accuracy, productivity, timeliness, and data integrity.

• Utilize Oracle Health, Solventum CRS, CPRS, VistA, VIRR, and other authorized VA systems as necessary.

• Safeguard patient information and comply with HIPAA, the Privacy Act, VA security protocols, and relevant coding standards.

⛳️ Requirements

• U.S. citizenship is mandatory.

• Proficiency in both spoken and written English is required.

• Must hold a current recognized AHIMA or AAPC credential, such as RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CCS-P, CPC, COC, or CIC, which should be maintained throughout employment.

• A minimum of two years of continuous professional coding experience in a similar VA Level 1A healthcare environment or an equivalent complex healthcare setting is necessary.

• Expertise in ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, HCPCS, E/M coding, modifiers, and compliant provider queries as relevant to the assigned work.

• Familiarity with Oracle Health coding workflows is required.

• Knowledge of Solventum CRS, VistA, CPRS, and VIRR is preferred or required for specific duties.

• Capability to meet VA standards for productivity, timeliness, data security, privacy, quality, and coding accuracy.

• Successful completion of VA screening, initiation of National Agency Check, PIV eligibility, and compliance with relevant ADP-sensitive access requirements.

• Submission of a current resume that outlines qualifying education, credentials, systems proficiency, and at least two years of relevant coding experience.

• Provide a copy of a current qualifying AHIMA or AAPC certification.
