Inpatient Facility Coder

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ohio, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Review and code inpatient records, discharges, and associated professional and surgical services for the VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System.

• Assign and validate diagnosis and procedure codes.

• Abstract diagnoses, procedures, present-on-admission indicators, and other necessary data elements.

• Submit compliant provider queries when documentation is incomplete, conflicting, or inadequate.

• Code relevant professional, surgical, and ancillary services using CPT, HCPCS, and E/M requirements.

• Rectify coding edits, rejections, audit findings, and identified documentation issues.

• Achieve contract standards for coding accuracy, productivity, timeliness, and data integrity.

• Utilize Oracle Health, Solventum CRS, CPRS, VistA, VIRR, and other authorized VA systems.

• Safeguard patient information and adhere to HIPAA, the Privacy Act, VA security protocols, and applicable coding standards.

⛳️ Requirements

• U.S. citizenship is mandatory.

• Proficient in both spoken and written English.

• Current acceptable AHIMA or AAPC credential, such as RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CCS-P, CPC, COC, or CIC, must be maintained throughout employment.

• A minimum of two years of continuous professional coding experience in a comparable VA Level 1A healthcare environment or an equivalent complex healthcare setting.

• Expertise in ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, HCPCS, E/M coding, modifiers, and compliant provider queries.

• Proficiency in Oracle Health coding workflows.

• Familiarity with Solventum CRS, VistA, CPRS, and VIRR is preferred or required for assigned duties.

• Ability to fulfill VA productivity, timeliness, data-security, privacy, quality, and coding-accuracy standards.

• Candidates must meet all VA suitability, background investigation, PIV, privacy, information security, and system access requirements.

• A current resume documenting qualifying education, credentials, systems proficiency, and at least two years of relevant coding experience is required.

• A copy of a current qualifying AHIMA or AAPC certification is necessary.
