Claims Technical Director – Casualty, Auto Liability

📋 Description

• Act as a senior technical expert and subject matter authority for intricate casualty claims, covering auto bodily injury, general liability, premises liability, products liability, and high-stakes lawsuits.

• Work collaboratively with and mentor core liability claim handlers on claims that meet established complexity criteria.

• Perform comprehensive technical evaluations of claim files to ensure diligent investigation, accurate liability determination, and effective litigation strategies.

• Recognize claim trends and enhance performance metrics.

• Offer insights on coverage analysis, damage assessments, and exposure evaluations.

• Assist claim handlers throughout the lifecycle of complex claims, including investigation, evaluation, reserving, litigation management, and resolution strategies.

• Ensure meticulous fact-gathering and documentation practices.

• Provide advice on case valuation tactics and exposure assessments.

• Suggest reserve adequacy and adjustments based on evolving claim circumstances.

• Collaborate with defense counsel and evaluate legal strategies.

• Guide negotiation tactics and settlement choices.

• Foster the development of core liability claim handlers through roundtable discussions, individualized coaching, collaborative strategies for claims and litigation, and serving as a role model.

• Evaluate and communicate the progress of claim handlers and their readiness for more advanced positions.

• Provide feedback, training, and insights on claims trends.

• Collaborate with Casualty Claims leadership to identify risk patterns, operational enhancements, and process improvements.

• Contribute to the development of claims handling strategies, policies, and standards across the casualty organization.


⛳️ Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in casualty claims, encompassing complex, high-severity, and litigated liability claims.

• Management experience is advantageous.

• A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is required.

• Credentials such as CPCU, AIC, SCLA, JD, or similar are preferred.

• Proficiency in coverage analysis, investigative strategies, litigation management, and negotiation concerning high-severity exposures.

• Strong strategic decision-making abilities with a track record of delivering consistent quality, accurate reserving, and optimizing outcomes.

• Capability to exert influence without formal authority.

• Excellent communication and collaborative skills.

• Ability to translate complex information into clear directives.

• Proficient in coaching, mentoring, and influencing claim handlers across various experience levels.

• Possess executive presence and the ability to function effectively within a matrixed claims environment.
