This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take ownership of finance for BAM!, encompassing forecasting and planning, accounting and controls, cash management, and accurate reporting.
• Develop annual budgets, rolling forecasts, and long-term plans for a seasonal, multi-program, multi-state portfolio.
• Create financial reports suitable for the Board and KPI dashboards, detailing unit economics by program, customer/camp, and state.
• Spearhead pricing strategy and margin analysis for afterschool and summer camp initiatives.
• Construct or assist in the creation of pricing and quoting tools utilized by the Sales team.
• Conduct scenario planning and financial modeling for new states and programs.
• Collaborate with Operations on scheduling and labor-management systems, labor allocation rules, controls, and reporting.
• Establish reliable data flows from scheduling, timekeeping, and payroll systems into the general ledger and reporting.
• Provide comprehensive investor and lender reporting, capital planning, and diligence assistance.
• Oversee the monthly close, ensuring GAAP-compliant financial statements and scalable internal controls.
• Manage external audits, tax filings, entity registrations, and compliance across multiple states.
• Supervise revenue recognition for tuition, camp fees, and contracts with schools and districts.
• Select and implement scalable financial systems.
• Oversee payroll tax and employment compliance filings, along with annual ACA reporting.
• Review and authorize payroll, including reporting on seasonal labor-cost variances.
• Manage accounts payable, expenses, reimbursements, vendor payments, approvals, and 1099 reporting.
• Supervise consolidated financial reporting, intercompany accounting, and compliance at the entity level.
• Forecast cash flow and manage working capital during seasonal cycles.
• Handle banking relationships, credit facilities, liquidity planning, billing, receivables, and collections.
• Oversee payroll funding and vendor payment cycles.
• Manage insurance coverage and renewals across operating states.
• Evaluate risks associated with new programs, partnerships, and markets.
• Supervise outsourced accounting, finance, HR, audit, tax, insurance, benefits, and other finance-related vendors.
• Review and approve customer and partner contracts concerning pricing, payment terms, cancellation, revenue recognition, and contractual risk.
• Collaborate with the CEO and legal counsel on financial exposure related legal and regulatory matters.
• Directly manage the accounting and finance team as well as outsourced partners.
• Partner with HR on labor-cost planning, benefits strategies, financially impactful policies, and seasonal staffing budgets.
• Support employment-related legal and compliance issues from a financial perspective.
• Collaborate with the executive team on organizational design and cost structure.
• Prepare materials for the Board, financial packages, and strategic recommendations.
• Work closely with the CEO on company strategy, growth investments, and capital planning.
• Represent BAM! in dealings with banking, audits, investors, and other external financial relationships.
• A strong commitment to the mission of expanding access to enrichment for children in low-income communities.
• Over 10 years of progressive finance leadership experience, including roles such as CFO, VP of Finance, or Head of Finance.
• Proven experience in managing forecasting, Board reporting, and accounting functions.
• In-depth knowledge of GAAP and accounting fundamentals.
• Experience overseeing external audits and multi-state tax compliance.
• Hands-on accounting expertise to review and challenge journal entries and close from an outsourced provider.
• Direct experience managing seasonal cash flow, working capital, and forecasting through revenue variations.
• Advanced FP&A capabilities, including forecasts based on enrollment, staffing, and pricing assumptions.
• Proficiency in scenario modeling and understanding unit economics by product/program, site, customer, and season.
• Ability to independently develop financial models.
• Experience with multi-entity corporate structures, intercompany accounting, and consolidated reporting.
• Experience in Board-level financial reporting and presentations.
• Strong ability to collaborate closely with HR on benefits, labor costs, policy, and compliance matters.
• Excellent judgment and discretion regarding confidential financial and personnel information.
• Current, hands-on familiarity with AI and other third-party financial tools.
• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
• Experience in selecting, implementing, and integrating ERP, CRM, and payroll platforms.
• Proven track record in accelerating the monthly close process.
• Experience in program-level or site-level cost accounting and margin reporting.
• Proficiency in allocating variable-rate field labor across programs, sites, and clients.
• Understanding of payroll tax implications for a large, seasonal, multi-state hourly workforce.
• Background in seasonal, multi-site operations in education, camps, childcare, or similar sectors.
• Direct experience with government contracts, school district funding, or similarly reporting-intensive revenue streams.
• Experience managing outsourced or offshore accounting relationships.
• Experience leading complex reconciliation or compliance remediation efforts.
• Ability to engage in data-driven discussions about cost structure with department leaders.
• Willingness to travel occasionally for Board meetings, key partner relationships, and periodic in-person collaboration with the CEO.
• CPA and/or MBA are preferred qualifications.
• Familiarity with Sage Intacct, Salesforce, Paycom, and Bill.com is a significant advantage.
