Chief Commercial Officer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Formulate and implement Pencco's overarching commercial strategy in line with corporate objectives.

• Take ownership of commercial performance, focusing on revenue expansion, gross margin, pricing strategies, customer retention, market development, and commercial accountability.

• Provide leadership and guidance to the Sales, Business Development, Strategic Materials, Product Management, Product Development, Advanced Water Treatment, Inside Sales and Bids, Customer Service, and Marketing teams.

• Guide and nurture the Sales Manager, holding accountability for the performance of Regional Sales Managers and the overall sales organization.

• Set commercial goals, KPIs, reporting standards, and accountability measures.

• Develop and sustain pricing and margin-management strategies.

• Assess customer, product, market, and regional profitability to inform priorities and resource distribution.

• Identify and cultivate new business opportunities, markets, products, applications, and strategic partnerships.

• Provide executive oversight for significant customer relationships, negotiations, contracts, bids, and major commercial prospects.

• Coordinate business development and product strategies to convert opportunities into sustainable commercial ventures.

• Align supplier strategies, product availability, sourcing economics, and commercial prospects with Strategic Materials.

• Collaborate with Sales, Inside Sales/Bids, and Customer Service to ensure a consistent customer experience and robust execution.

• Oversee commercial market intelligence, including competitive activities, industry trends, customer demand, pricing dynamics, and emerging opportunities.

• Lead Marketing initiatives to bolster Pencco's commercial strategy.

• Partner with Finance on budget planning, forecasts, pricing objectives, profitability goals, and commercial performance reporting.

• Collaborate with Operations and Logistics on sales commitments, inventory management, production, transportation, and customer expectations.

• Establish commercial processes and decision-making rights for pricing, customer commitments, new business ventures, and strategic initiatives.

• Develop the commercial leadership team, succession plans, performance expectations, and organizational capabilities.

• Report on commercial performance, opportunities, risks, and strategic recommendations to the Executive Vice President, CEO, and executive leadership team.

• Perform additional duties as required.

• Strong commercial and strategic leadership skills with the ability to translate corporate objectives into actionable commercial strategies.

• Proven understanding of revenue, margin, pricing, customer profitability, and overall business economics.

• Established capability to lead multiple commercial functions and cultivate strong functional leaders.

• Strong analytical and financial skills, enabling data-driven commercial decision-making.

• Demonstrated ability to develop and implement growth strategies across various customers, products, and markets.

• Strong negotiation skills and experience in managing significant customer, supplier, and strategic relationships.

• Ability to balance immediate commercial opportunities with long-term profitability and strategic goals.

• Strong cross-functional leadership abilities and effectiveness in collaborating with Operations, Finance, Logistics, and executive leadership.

• Outstanding communication, leadership, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.

• Proven ability to establish accountability and foster high-performing teams.

• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Marketing, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related field.

• Advanced degree is preferred.

• 20 years of directly related experience.

• At least 15 years of senior leadership experience in sales, commercial management, business development, or related areas.

• Experience in chemicals, water treatment, industrial products, distribution, manufacturing, or a similar B2B environment is highly preferred.

• Proven experience in managing commercial strategy, pricing, profitability, customer relationships, and business growth.

• Demonstrated experience in building and leading high-performing commercial teams.
