This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.
• Develop and implement carrier procurement strategies that align with business goals, service demands, and cost objectives.
• Identify, assess, and onboard carriers across various transportation modes.
• Manage carriers that focus on high-risk, high-value, and pharmaceutical freight.
• Oversee negotiations for carrier contracts to achieve competitive pricing, advantageous terms, and service level agreements (SLAs).
• Create frameworks for evaluating carrier performance, including scorecards, key performance indicators (KPIs), and business reviews.
• Track service quality, costs, compliance, and risk performance while initiating corrective measures as necessary.
• Collaborate with Operations, Brokerage, and Customer Solutions teams to ensure carrier capabilities align with customer needs.
• Verify that carriers adhere to regulatory, safety, insurance, and compliance standards.
• Formulate contingency plans and alternative sourcing strategies.
• Analyze market trends, fluctuations in capacity, and changes in rates.
• Enhance procurement processes for improved efficiency and cost savings.
• Support preferred carrier initiatives and foster long-term strategic partnerships.
• Keep precise records of carriers, contracts, and documentation within company systems.
• Undertake additional duties, responsibilities, and projects as assigned.
• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or a related field is preferred; equivalent experience will also be considered.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in transportation, logistics, or carrier procurement.
• Strong preference for candidates with experience in sourcing and managing carriers for high-value, high-risk, or pharmaceutical freight.
• Proven track record in negotiating transportation contracts and managing relationships with carriers.
• Preferred experience in brokerage, asset-based transportation, or third-party logistics (3PL) environments.
• In-depth knowledge of transportation markets, carrier networks, and procurement strategies.
• Understanding of compliance, security, and regulatory requirements relevant to specialized freight.
• Excellent negotiation and vendor management capabilities.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to interpret market data and trends effectively.
• Capability to balance cost, service, and risk in decision-making processes.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills across multiple functional teams.
• High attention to detail and exceptional organizational abilities.
• Ability to operate both strategically and tactically in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficient in effective verbal and written communication.
• Ability to work on a computer for extended durations, which includes frequent use of a keyboard, mouse, and telephone.
• Occasional standing, walking, and light lifting of up to 15 pounds may be required.
• Minimal travel may be required.
