This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
β’ Oversee the bargaining program area and create as well as execute significant program plans that enhance collective bargaining and contract campaign capabilities across local unions.
β’ Provide strategic guidance for intricate bargaining initiatives and contract campaigns, which encompass first contracts, major strategic negotiations, multi-employer, multi-local, and cross-sector endeavors.
β’ Identify politically sensitive bargaining topics, advise on strategic approaches, and implement decisions in collaboration with Union Strength leadership and affiliate leaders.
β’ Cultivate relationships with affiliate leaders and senior staff to evaluate bargaining requirements, align strategies, and support the effective implementation of national and local bargaining objectives.
β’ Formulate bargaining strategies, tools, standards, and training programs for local union leaders and personnel.
β’ Direct bargaining training and initiatives for leadership development.
β’ Supervise, mentor, and enhance the skills of staff assigned to the bargaining program area.
β’ Set priorities, offer direction, and ensure high-quality execution of the work.
β’ Manage the designated budget and oversee expenditures within authorized limits.
β’ Maintain professional expertise in collective bargaining and contract campaign strategies and apply that knowledge to complex bargaining issues.
β’ Represent SEIU with external partners and organizations regarding national bargaining and contract campaigns.
β’ Utilize independent judgment and make decisions that impact the success or failure of the National Bargaining program area.
β’ Perform additional responsibilities as required to align with the Hubβs mission and objectives.
β’ A minimum of eight to nine (8β9) years of relevant, progressive experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
β’ Professional expertise in collective bargaining, contract campaign strategy, first contracts, and complex or multi-party negotiations.
β’ Significant experience in managing complex labor negotiations, including first contracts and other major contract campaigns.
β’ Proven experience in leading programs and supervising staff.
β’ Ability to develop and execute major program plans while translating national bargaining priorities into effective strategies, work plans, and measurable results.
β’ Skill in identifying politically sensitive issues, exercising sound judgment, and making sensitive decisions in collaboration with senior leadership and affiliate leaders.
β’ Proven ability to cultivate and maintain relationships with affiliate leaders, senior staff, elected leaders, and external partners.
β’ Demonstrated capability to supervise, mentor, develop, and hold staff accountable while fostering diverse, inclusive, high-performing teams.
β’ Experience in formulating and managing a program or functional budget and setting priorities within approved resources.
β’ Proficiency in established strategies for union membership growth, with an understanding of the link between racial justice, worker power, and membership expansion.
β’ Demonstrated ability to weave racial justice and anti-racist principles into strategy, program development, staff management, and coalition-building.
β’ Capability to manage multiple complex priorities and projects, coordinate among departments and local unions, and achieve results promptly.
β’ Excellent skills in strategic planning, organization, communication, facilitation, and leadership development.
β’ Knowledge of union systems, structures, cultures, and the roles of local unions and the International Union in collective bargaining.
β’ Ability to exercise significant independent judgment and make decisions that may influence the success or failure of the National Bargaining program area.
β’ Must be available for frequent travel, including the ability to fly and stay overnight.
β’ Travel and work outside of traditional business hours are necessary.
