This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Spearhead fundraising initiatives for the Beyond Coal Campaign to secure revenue for the annual budget.
• Develop and oversee funding pipelines from both institutional and individual sources.
• Cultivate, solicit, and secure six- and seven-figure grants and donations.
• Collaborate with the Office of Advancement on strategies for prospects, proposals, presentations, and reporting.
• Establish annual revenue targets and manage campaign expenditures based on revenue forecasts and strategic opportunities.
• Nurture relationships with foundations and major donors through updates, briefings, meetings, deliverables, reports, and communications highlighting impact.
• Manage donor expectations and ensure institutional documentation of relationship knowledge.
• Oversee the campaign’s intricate budget and align resources with strategic goals.
• Direct national campaign strategy, planning, design, and evaluation with a focus on equity, justice, and inclusion.
• Create the campaign's theory of change, strategies, objectives, and outcomes.
• Accelerate the growth of clean energy, facilitate the closure of coal plants, and prevent the establishment of new gas facilities.
• Supervise national planning and endorse local campaign initiatives.
• Provide strategic direction and support to Sierra Club teams, partners, and external stakeholders.
• Delegate responsibilities, ensure follow-ups, manage projects, and build alignment among stakeholders.
• Lead engagement efforts with the Field Department, Chapters, Environmental Law Program, Communications, and other groups.
• Supervise and mentor a team of up to six direct reports.
• Set performance objectives, offer feedback, support professional growth, coach staff, and assess effectiveness.
• Make recommendations regarding hiring and terminations, and take disciplinary actions as necessary.
• Track progress toward achieving annual results.
• Participate in the Energy Campaigns Team and contribute to shaping intersectional energy campaigns.
• Support strategies aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions while enhancing power-building efforts.
• Act as a media spokesperson and subject-matter expert representing the Sierra Club.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
• Proven success in personally raising substantial revenue, including six- and seven-figure grants and gifts.
• Experience in cultivating, soliciting, closing, reporting, and renewing funding from foundations and high-net-worth individuals.
• Background in collaborating with advancement or development staff on proposals, presentations, and donor communications.
• Proficient in writing effective grant proposals and grant reports.
• History of maintaining and expanding funder relationships during organizational or leadership transitions.
• Record of successful leadership in organizational or campaign settings.
• Capability to create, implement, and achieve strategic campaigns or develop successful organizations.
• Ability to articulate a vision, meet objectives, foster stakeholder alignment, identify a theory of change, utilize resources effectively, and cultivate a positive team culture.
• Extensive experience in managing and leading projects from inception to completion.
• Proficiency in establishing coordination processes, effective delegation, and leading large teams.
• Strong interpersonal abilities to navigate disagreements and lead through uncertainty, ambiguity, or conflict.
• Knowledge of the power sector and associated environmental and social justice issues.
• Familiarity with policy and regulatory frameworks governing the power sector.
• Understanding of environmental, climate, and social justice issues and their interconnections.
• Experience in designing and executing strategies that intersect environment, race, gender, and class.
• Proven ability to cultivate and maintain equitable, accountable partnerships.
• Skill in managing diverse individuals and leading teams with various identities and expertise.
• Ability to address and navigate conflict fairly and provide timely feedback.
• In-depth awareness of privilege and the intersections of race, gender, and class within environmental, climate, and movement work.
• Experience in coaching others on equity-related matters.
• Highly developed communication skills.
• Ability to represent the organization to the media and key decision-makers effectively.
• Proven track record in budget management at a comparable scale.
• Commitment to understanding systems of oppression, privilege, and power dynamics.
• Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time.
• Ideal candidates may possess relationships with climate, clean energy, and environmental funders; experience with data management and digital tools; change management experience; and familiarity with working across various geographies and volunteer/staff structures.
