Business Systems Analyst – Appian

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +17 more states.

📋 Description

• Collaborate with Product Owners, Scrum Masters, Agile Team members, business stakeholders, and technical teams.

• Transform software requirements into clear, actionable user stories and deliverables for the delivery team.

• Collect, identify, define, analyze, clarify, and document both business and technical requirements.

• Develop business requirements, functional specifications, process maps, workflows, and user stories.

• Investigate requirements throughout the Software Development Life Cycle, including business, functional, non-functional, and transitional requirements.

• Utilize modeling, journey mapping, story mapping, and limited code or API review as appropriate.

• Adhere to BSA standards, processes, documentation guidelines, Agile principles, and SAFe practices.

• Manage and enhance the product backlog in Jira, including user stories, shell stories, story splitting, modeling, story mapping, epics, and Definition of Ready standards.

• Engage in backlog refinement sessions and Agile ceremonies.

• Facilitate meetings and refinement sessions; navigate differing viewpoints and foster alignment.

• Provide short-term backfill support for Product Owner or Scrum Master roles as necessary.

• Assist delivery teams during testing and implementation phases.

• Coordinate user acceptance testing, create test plans, validate system changes, aid in script writing, and support production issues.

• Examine technical designs for alignment with requirements.

• Involve stakeholders and integrate their needs, concerns, and feedback into the requirements.

• Participate in BSA Communities of Practice and maintain documentation for knowledge sharing.

• Commit to continuous learning and contribute to process, system, and service enhancements.

• Duties are primarily conducted from a home office; travel to meetings and locations across the country may be required.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university, combined with three to six years of relevant experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Hands-on experience with Appian is essential.

• Understanding of SQL may be required based on assignment.

• Ability to respond promptly and effectively to tasks, deadlines, and challenges.

• Proficient analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.

• Strong written, verbal, and non-verbal communication abilities.

• Capability to facilitate meetings, collaborate with stakeholders, manage conflicts, and build consensus.

• Skills in stakeholder analysis.

• Proficient in modeling using diagrams, models, and visualizations.

• Expertise in requirements, process, and specification documentation.

• Adaptability and conflict resolution capabilities.

• Preferred: experience in healthcare, pharmacy benefits management, ancillary benefits management, workers' compensation, and/or insurance.

• Preferred: experience in an Agile environment.

• Preferred: PMP, CBAP, SAFe, or Appian certifications.

• Preferred experience with Java, Mongo, Kafka, DataDog, Splunk, ActiveBatch, SOAP web services, REST APIs, MS SQL Server, Jira/Confluence, Git, SwaggerHub, Appian, and MS Office/Power Platform.

• Must have reliable, high-speed internet access with adequate bandwidth.
