Bilingual Claims Helper

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Deliver trauma-informed and culturally sensitive support to Class Members through virtual, phone, and in-person interactions.

• Assist Class Members in navigating claim forms, available resources, and the overall claims process.

• Collaborate with Claims Helpers to ensure effective support and address any service gaps.

• Establish and maintain relationships with communities, organizations, and local partners.

• Aid Class Members with the completion of claims, provide status updates, manage appeals, and facilitate connections to mental health, legal, and cultural resources.

• Engage in continuous training and learning to enhance skills and provide effective support throughout the Settlement claims process.

• Support various Castlemain projects, with a primary focus on the Federal Indian Hospitals Settlement.

• Foster a safe, healthy, and respectful work environment by adhering to health and safety policies, maintaining open communication, and promoting risk and injury prevention.

⛳️ Requirements

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and French.

• A minimum of three years of experience working with Indigenous Peoples and communities, gained through professional roles, community involvement, or personal lived experience.

• Strong understanding and awareness of Indigenous culture, history, and the effects of trauma.

• Comprehensive knowledge of colonial policies, discriminatory laws, and the impact of colonization on Indigenous peoples.

• Familiarity with Indigenous community governance structures.

• Willingness to travel across Canada, up to 30% of the role, with individual trips lasting up to 7–10 days.

• Intermediate proficiency with technology and online platforms, or a strong ability to quickly learn new tools.

• Capability to access a local airport and potential nearby work sites.

• Access to a quiet workspace equipped with internet connectivity.

• Successful completion of both a Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) as a prerequisite for employment.
