This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.
• Oversee the 24-hour Behavioral Health Crisis line operations
• Perform telephonic screenings, triage, assessments, and referrals
• Connect individuals swiftly and securely with services and community resources
• Authorize crisis services for state- and Medicaid-funded emergency interventions
• Handle and manage escalated calls related to urgent or emergent situations, including psychosis, suicidality, homicidality, intoxication, withdrawal, or medical crises
• Make clinical triage and level-of-care assessments based on limited telephonic data
• Ensure caller safety by contacting and coordinating with EMS, CIT officers, police, mobile crisis teams, and other first responders
• Implement Decision to Warn protocols for callers exhibiting active homicidal ideation
• Notify Child Protective Services and Adult Protective Services as necessary
• Identify populations at high risk and those with special healthcare needs and refer them to Care Coordination
• Review caller history in the client management system and arrange assessment appointments via the electronic scheduling system
• Complete specialized screening documentation and record incoming call activities in the MCO tracking system
• Operate a multi-functional phone system alongside various software applications while addressing caller needs
• Conduct follow-ups to ensure that scheduled assessments and crisis follow-up appointments are completed
• Direct calls to the appropriate MCO departments
• Monitor incoming faxes and reports from overflow vendors
• Engage interpreter services as required
• Provide clinical oversight and review of calls from overflow vendors
• Assist callers facing barriers to care and identify suitable resources
• Offer consultation, support, and training to non-licensed Call Center personnel
• Identify and report quality concerns and unusual call/service-seeking behaviors
• Master’s degree in a Human Services-related field
• At least three (3) years of relevant experience post-degree in a community, business, or governmental program providing mental health support services
• A current, active, and unrestricted behavioral health license from a North Carolina Professional Board (LCSW, LCMHC, LCAS, LPA, LMFT)
• Familiarity with applicable state and federal laws, client rights, mandatory reporting, and confidentiality
• Understanding of Crisis Intervention, Motivational Interviewing, and Systems Theory
• Awareness of culturally competent practices
• Proficient knowledge of DSM-5
• Comprehensive understanding of the MCO/LME structure within the North Carolina mental health system
• In-depth knowledge of ASAM Criteria and resources within the designated catchment area
• Proficient in using multiple software platforms and possess strong typing skills
• Ability to independently troubleshoot minor technological issues
• Capability to assess clinical needs over the phone
• Competence in multitasking, prioritizing work autonomously, and maintaining composure during high-stress crisis calls
• Skill in providing crisis response and de-escalating challenging callers
• Ability to collaborate effectively with staff from various agencies
• Clear oral and written communication skills
• Must reside in North Carolina
• Willingness to work weekends and some holidays
• Must complete an initial 6 to 8-week virtual training program, Monday-Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
