Backend Team Lead – PHP

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Europe.

📋 Description

• Establish and lead the internal Backend team from inception.

• Facilitate the complete migration and ensure long-term internal ownership of the platform.

• Oversee the PHP backend, ensuring system stability, security, and optimization throughout the migration process.

• Collaborate with the Software Architect to implement a scalable, internally managed technical architecture.

• Mentor and develop engineers while setting standards for high-velocity delivery, clean code, and thorough testing.

• Spearhead the transition from a legacy environment to a modern, high-performance internal architecture.

• Take ownership of the backend roadmap delivery.

• Ensure high availability and fault tolerance for global gaming systems.

• Recruit, mentor, and lead a top-tier internal team.

⛳️ Requirements

• Significant experience as a Senior or Lead Engineer with a demonstrated ability to scale high-performance engineering teams.

• Experience in iGaming, Sportsbook, or Fintech platforms.

• Expert knowledge of PHP/Laravel.

• Proven experience in refactoring complex systems for scalability.

• Familiarity with high-stakes migration environments.

• In-depth understanding of relational databases, including PostgreSQL/MySQL.

• Experience with Redis.

• Proficient in building scalable REST/GraphQL APIs.

• Strong expertise in Docker, Kubernetes, and automated CI/CD pipelines.

• Practical, hands-on leadership style with the ability to lead by example in the codebase.

• Exceptional communication skills in English.

• Experience with event-driven architectures, including Kafka and RabbitMQ.

• Knowledge of observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or Datadog.

• Excellent skills in utilizing AI.

• Familiarity with AWS/GCP cloud environments.

• Awareness of security best practices for high-volume financial transactions.

• Knowledge of Golang.
