Backend Team Lead

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Oversee a small backend team, taking charge of execution through breakdown, estimation, and prioritization.

• Continuously evaluate team performance and development, adjusting team structure as necessary without hindering delivery.

• Develop and sustain integrations with external services.

• Create the internal LLM agent framework, emphasizing scalability, throughput, and parallel processing.

• Enhance and refine platform architecture to accommodate changing project requirements.

• Provide technical leadership for the backend/platform track by deconstructing intricate tasks and establishing processes aligned with product objectives.

• Quickly adapt to shifting priorities, work in rapid feedback cycles, maintain team alignment, and ensure task completion.

• Work collaboratively with other teams on architecture, integrations, ownership delineations, and handoff processes.

• Guarantee system observability and reliability through metrics, tracing, and monitoring.

⛳️ Requirements

• 6+ years of experience in developing and deploying production software.

• 3+ years of practical experience with asynchronous Python in live environments.

• 2+ years of experience in engineering leadership, guiding teams through execution while remaining technically engaged.

• A solid foundation in designing and evolving complex distributed systems, platform-level infrastructures, or other high-scale backend architectures.

• Proficiency in defining technical direction, deconstructing ambiguous challenges, prioritizing tasks, and delivering outcomes without comprehensive specifications or ongoing guidance.

• A product-oriented engineering mindset with complete ownership of features.

• Strong technical leadership capabilities and the ability to provide constructive feedback while enhancing team performance.

• Practical experience with LLMs and agentic AI frameworks (e.g., LangGraph or similar).

• Current knowledge of the rapidly changing AI landscape and engineering best practices.

• Comfort in dynamic, high-ambiguity environments.

• Familiarity with Python 3.13, asyncio, Kubernetes, Kafka, PostgreSQL, HTTP/gRPC, ELK, and Grafana.
