Backend Team Lead

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Cyprus.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the platform services domain for an AI-driven product utilizing modern LLM technologies.

• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to transform ambitious concepts into scalable, production-ready systems.

• Lead a small backend team, responsible for decomposition, estimation, prioritization, and execution.

• Evaluate team performance and development, adjusting team composition as necessary without hindering delivery.

• Create and sustain integrations with third-party services.

• Develop the internal LLM agent framework, emphasizing scalability, throughput, and parallel processing.

• Enhance and refine platform architecture to accommodate changing project requirements.

• Provide technical leadership for the backend/platform track and establish processes aligned with product objectives.

• Quickly adapt to shifting priorities, utilize short feedback loops, maintain team alignment, and drive projects to completion.

• Work collaboratively with other teams on architecture, integrations, ownership boundaries, and handoffs.

• Ensure system observability and reliability through metrics, tracing, and monitoring.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 6 years of experience in building and delivering production software.

• More than 3 years of practical experience with asynchronous Python in production settings.

• At least 2 years of experience in engineering leadership, guiding teams through execution while remaining technically engaged.

• Strong expertise in designing and evolving complex distributed systems, platform-level infrastructure, or other high-scale backend architectures.

• Capability to define technical direction, break down ambiguous challenges, prioritize tasks, and achieve results without detailed specifications or constant supervision.

• A product-focused engineering mindset with comprehensive ownership of features.

• Excellent technical leadership abilities with a knack for providing constructive feedback while upholding a high technical standard.

• Hands-on experience with LLMs and agentic AI frameworks (e.g., LangGraph or similar).

• Current knowledge of the rapidly changing AI landscape and engineering best practices.

• Comfort in fast-paced, high-ambiguity environments.

• Familiarity with Python 3.13, asyncio, Kubernetes, Kafka, PostgreSQL, HTTP/gRPC, ELK, and Grafana.
