Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North America.

📋 Description

• Design, construct, and sustain data pipelines throughout Techstars systems, incorporating Salesforce, PostgreSQL, Kafka, and internal APIs

• Take ownership of and enhance Kubernetes-based infrastructure utilizing Helm, OpenTofu, and GitHub Actions

• Oversee deployment tools, manage secrets, and ensure cluster health

• Collaborate with the senior security engineer on incident response, observability, and infrastructure reliability

• Maintain and enhance the PostgreSQL database layer, focusing on schema design, migrations, query performance, and data integrity

• Support data flows in Salesforce and facilitate broader platform integrations

• Develop and sustain internal tools and integrations that connect third-party SaaS applications to Techstars OS

• Contribute to CI/CD practices, testing, code reviews, documentation, and engineering standards

• Operate in an agile team environment with product backlogs, sprints, and regular production deliveries

⛳️ Requirements

• Strong experience in building and maintaining data pipelines, including ETL/ELT, data ingestion, transformation, and delivery to downstream consumers

• Expertise in PostgreSQL, including schema design, migrations, query optimization, and data modeling

• Practical experience with Kubernetes in a production setting, including Helm, kubectl, and troubleshooting workloads

• Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools such as OpenTofu or Terraform

• Proficient in Python for data engineering, scripting, and automation tasks

• Deep understanding of collaborative development within a team environment

• Knowledge of AWS services such as S3, RDS, Lambda, IAM, and associated tools

• DevOps mindset with a grasp of observability and reliability; experience with Prometheus/Grafana is advantageous

• Exceptional debugging and troubleshooting capabilities

• Experience in agile development contexts with a product team

• Strong communication skills and the ability to articulate technical trade-offs effectively
