Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Serbia.

📋 Description

• Develop and manage scalable backend systems that support AI-driven features in a production environment.

• Create high-performance inference pipelines and orchestrate workflows effectively.

• Establish clear service boundaries around machine learning models.

• Take responsibility for system health and observability, which includes performance monitoring, structured logging, alerting, and incident management.

• Enhance latency and throughput through strategic caching, request batching, and response streaming.

• Collaborate closely with both client and machine learning engineers.

• Provide reliable, high-efficiency APIs for mobile and desktop applications.

⛳️ Requirements

• Demonstrated experience in core backend software engineering within production settings.

• Proficiency in Python and Node.js.

• Experience with infrastructure tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.

• Practical knowledge in building and maintaining distributed microservices that achieve high throughput and low latency.

• Strong understanding of contemporary AI inference patterns, including LLMs, vector embeddings, and multimodal architectures.

• Hands-on experience in debugging and profiling complex distributed systems under substantial load.

• Familiarity with commercial AI APIs like OpenAI and Anthropic.

• Understanding of self-hosted open-source models.

• A production-oriented mindset that emphasizes shipping, observing live system behavior, and rapid iteration.
