Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Portugal.

📋 Description

• Develop and manage scalable backend systems that deliver AI-driven features in a production environment.

• Create high-performance inference pipelines and orchestration workflows.

• Establish clear service boundaries surrounding machine learning models.

• Take ownership of system health and observability, which includes performance monitoring, structured logging, alerting, and incident response.

• Enhance latency and throughput through strategic caching, request batching, and response streaming.

• Work collaboratively with client and machine learning engineers.

• Provide stable, high-efficiency APIs for both mobile and desktop applications.

⛳️ Requirements

• Demonstrated experience in core backend software engineering within production settings.

• Proficient in Python and Node.js.

• Knowledge of infrastructure with Docker and Kubernetes.

• Practical experience in developing and maintaining high-throughput, low-latency distributed microservices.

• Strong understanding of contemporary AI inference patterns, including LLMs, vector embeddings, and multimodal frameworks.

• Hands-on experience in debugging and profiling complex distributed systems under significant load.

• Familiarity with commercial AI APIs like OpenAI and Anthropic.

• Knowledge of self-hosted open-source models.

• Production-oriented mindset with a focus on deployment, monitoring live system performance, and rapid iteration.
