Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Croatia.

📋 Description

• Develop and manage scalable backend systems that support AI-driven functionalities in a production setting.

• Create efficient inference pipelines, orchestration workflows, and define service boundaries around machine learning models.

• Take responsibility for system health and observability, including performance monitoring, structured logging, alerting, and incident management.

• Enhance system latency and throughput through strategic caching, request batching, and response streaming.

• Collaborate effectively with clients and machine learning engineers.

• Provide stable, high-efficiency APIs for both mobile and desktop applications.

⛳️ Requirements

• Demonstrated experience in core backend software engineering within production environments.

• Proficiency in Python and Node.js.

• Familiarity with infrastructure tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.

• Practical experience in building and maintaining distributed microservices that are high-throughput and low-latency.

• Strong understanding of contemporary AI inference patterns, including large language models (LLMs), vector embeddings, and multimodal architectures.

• Hands-on experience in debugging and profiling complex distributed systems under significant load.

• Knowledge of commercial AI APIs, including OpenAI and Anthropic.

• Understanding of self-hosted open-source models.

• Production-oriented mindset with a strong inclination towards delivering, monitoring live system performance, and rapid iteration.
