Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants anywhere in the world.

📋 Description

• Take complete ownership of the Python/Django backend and production infrastructure.

• Collaborate closely with the founder to review and enhance code while developing backend features.

• Acquire knowledge of the backend and server operations alongside the current backend engineer, ultimately assuming ownership.

• Deliver new backend features.

• Assist in migrating the PostgreSQL database to Neon.

• Oversee the Hetzner Linux server, including deployments, software updates, and server security.

• Investigate backend issues, resolve incidents, and enhance performance.

• Maintain PostgreSQL and ensure that background jobs, external API integrations, monitoring, and backups operate reliably.

• Utilize AI coding tools daily while preserving quality.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive production experience in building and maintaining backends with Python and Django.

• Proficient in PostgreSQL / SQL, including query optimization and migrations.

• Hands-on experience with Linux server administration and production troubleshooting.

• Familiarity with REST APIs, background jobs, and task queues, such as Celery / RabbitMQ.

• Comfortable using Git, participating in code reviews, testing, and executing safe deployments.

• Self-sufficient and dependable, demonstrating initiative to improve processes and effectively communicate technical issues.

• Actively utilize AI tools to boost productivity and work quality, with an interest in emerging capabilities and practical daily applications.

• Experience with Hetzner, Neon, Nginx, S3-compatible storage, or CI/CD is advantageous.

• Basic knowledge of 3D models and simple 3D workflows is a plus; advanced 3D expertise is not required.

• Experience with AI APIs or media processing is a bonus.
