Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Europe.

📋 Description

• Take responsibility for backend services, data, and machine learning pipelines, as well as the infrastructure supporting Kalepa’s product for commercial insurance underwriters.

• Develop and enhance systems that handle, process, and analyze large amounts of both structured and unstructured data.

• Work with various documents, external sources, and model outputs.

• Manage systems from start to finish.

• Collaborate with full-stack, backend, machine learning, and platform engineering teams.

• Influence the design, development, testing, and operation of production systems at scale.

• Contribute to foundational systems within a rapidly expanding AI startup.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 3 years of professional experience in software engineering, focusing on building and deploying production systems.

• Strong development capabilities, including design, debugging, and problem-solving skills.

• Proficient in Python, with a solid understanding of at least one additional programming language.

• Familiarity with relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL.

• Experience with AWS and asynchronous or serverless architectures (such as EC2, Lambda, etc.).

• Ability to design and implement data-driven microservices using RESTful APIs.

• A degree in computer science, mathematics, engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent hands-on experience.

• A keen interest in AI, data, and practical applications of machine learning.

• A sense of ownership and comfort in navigating ambiguity.

• Capability to work swiftly, learn rapidly, and uphold high standards.
