Automation Service Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maryland, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Address the service requirements of BD Advanced Diagnostics clients within the designated geographic area and, when necessary, on a national level.

• Attend to customer requests while performing installations, maintenance, upgrades, and repairs.

• Employ electronic and computer skills, tools, testing equipment, and schematic diagrams to ensure that instruments comply with specifications.

• Service laboratory systems, including Kiestra, Microbiology, Molecular, and LC/MS systems.

• Collaborate with service and support teams to enhance field-service revenue through billable services.

• Communicate tasks completed and outline follow-up plans.

• Proactively arrange and execute system upgrades with clients.

• Document and report customer complaints in relevant systems for appropriate resolution and investigation.

• Manage spare parts inventory, company-provided vehicle, and assigned equipment.

• Utilize the company credit card in accordance with business guidelines.

• Engage in both scheduled and unscheduled travel, including overnight stays and occasional national travel.

• Participate in the weekend/holiday on-call rotation approximately every 6 weeks.

• Maintain a professional appearance.

• Work remotely in a field-based role without direct supervision.

• Provide customer support during the PR shift from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Electronic Technology, Computer Science, Biomedical, or related fields OR 10+ years of relevant experience in troubleshooting and/or repairing complex systems.

• Knowledge of electronics, electro-mechanical devices (Mechatronics), PLCs, and pneumatics.

• Intermediate understanding of information systems networking architecture design and setup.

• Intermediate knowledge of computer software operating systems.

• Ability to effectively communicate with customer IT staff and laboratory leadership.

• Valid driver’s license with a minimum of 3 years of driving history.

• Real ID required.

• Availability for flexible hours, up to 50% travel outside the home geographic area, and on-call support.

• Capability to lift up to 30 lbs frequently and 70 lbs infrequently; ability to push/pull materials weighing up to 100 lbs.

• Ability to stand, bend, stoop, and perform physical tasks for up to 8–10 hours.

• Compliance with company PPE standards.

• Willingness to participate in vendor credentialing programs and maintain access to customer facilities.

• Preferred: expertise in robotics.

• Preferred: experience with Liquid Chromatography (LC) and Mass Spectrometry (MS) instrumentation.

• Preferred: knowledge of Lab Information Systems (LIS) and database management.

• A+, Microsoft, or Cisco accreditation is advantageous.

• Familiarity with basic computer security concepts and standard procedures.

• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.

• Exceptional customer service skills.

• Ability to meet BD auto safety standards.

• Capability to pass respirator fit testing and annual spirometry if required.
