Automation Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom, +1 more country.

📋 Description

• Collaborate with diverse teams across operations, product engineering, maintenance, quality assurance, procurement, IT, OT, EHS, and business leadership.

• Design and implement automation solutions for machining, fabrication, assembly, material handling, and other related manufacturing processes.

• Assess automation possibilities and translate manufacturing requirements into safe, repeatable, and production-ready designs.

• Develop automation concepts, layouts, simulations, cycle-time estimates, and technical specifications.

• Conduct simulations for robot reach, payload, interference, and processes to minimize project risks.

• Assist in capital estimations, ROI business cases, equipment specifications, and project documentation.

• Engage in vendor selection, RFQs, design reviews, FAT, SAT, commissioning, and startup processes.

• Collaborate with controls, manufacturing, quality, maintenance, EHS, suppliers, and integrators to troubleshoot technical issues.

• Diagnose and enhance existing robotic and automated manufacturing systems.

• Record lessons learned and replicate successful automation solutions across various manufacturing locations.

• Support the development of automation standards, roadmaps, and preferred technology strategies.

• Investigate emerging technologies such as robotics, vision systems, simulation, digital twins, and AI-driven manufacturing.

• Offer hands-on technical assistance and knowledge sharing to site engineering teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Mechatronics, Automation/Controls, Robotics Engineering, or a related field.

• Over 3 years of experience in industrial automation, manufacturing engineering, robotics, controls, or advanced manufacturing.

• Practical experience with industrial robots and automation equipment in a production setting.

• Capability to design automation concepts, cell layouts, tooling methods, and equipment interfaces.

• Familiarity with robot or manufacturing simulation, offline programming, or digital manufacturing tools.

• Strong knowledge of machine safety, controls, integration, manufacturing processes, and production readiness.

• Proficient project execution, problem-solving, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration abilities.

• Willingness to travel as needed to support enterprise manufacturing sites.

• Experience with industrial robots; familiarity with FANUC is preferred, while ABB, KUKA, or Yaskawa/Motoman experience is also beneficial.

• Knowledge of robot simulation and offline programming tools like FANUC ROBOGUIDE, Process Simulate, Visual Components, or similar.

• Proficiency in 3D CAD, equipment layouts, reach studies, cycle-time analysis, and design-for-automation principles.

• Experience with machine vision, inspection, and robotic guidance systems.

• Background in automated material handling, end-of-arm tooling, fixtures, and sensor integration.

• Understanding of PLCs, HMIs, industrial networking, MES, SCADA, OEE, or manufacturing data systems.

• Experience with FAT, SAT, commissioning, production launches, and structured root-cause problem solving.

• Lean or Six Sigma certification is preferred.
