Automation Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement advanced manufacturing automation solutions throughout the global supply chain.

• Provide automation solutions for machining, fabrication, assembly, material handling, and other related manufacturing processes across various sites and business units.

• Transform manufacturing requirements into safe, repeatable, and production-ready automation and robotics designs.

• Assess automation possibilities and create technical concepts, specifications, layouts, and simulations.

• Aid in the execution of capital projects, including capital estimates, ROI business cases, equipment scopes, and project documentation.

• Conduct analyses on robot reach, payload, interference, process, cycle-time, and production readiness.

• Engage in vendor selection, RFQs, design reviews, FAT, SAT, commissioning, startup, and production launches.

• Collaborate with controls, manufacturing, quality, maintenance, EHS, suppliers, and integrators to address technical challenges.

• Diagnose and enhance robotic and automated manufacturing systems.

• Record lessons learned and replicate successful automation solutions across different sites.

• Support automation standards, roadmap, and preferred technology strategies.

• Assess emerging technologies in robotics, vision, simulation, digital twin, and AI-enabled manufacturing.

• Offer hands-on technical support and knowledge sharing for site engineering teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Mechatronics, Automation/Controls, Robotics Engineering, or a related field.

• Over 3 years of experience in industrial automation, manufacturing engineering, robotics, controls, or advanced manufacturing.

• Practical experience with industrial robots and automation equipment in a production setting.

• Capability to design automation concepts, cell layouts, tooling strategies, and equipment interfaces.

• Familiarity with robot or manufacturing simulation, offline programming, or digital manufacturing tools.

• Strong grasp of machine safety, controls, integration, manufacturing processes, and production readiness.

• Proficient in project execution, problem-solving, documentation, and collaborative skills across functions.

• Willingness to travel as needed to support enterprise manufacturing sites.

• Experience in automation or robotics within a high-volume manufacturing environment.

• Familiarity with industrial robots; FANUC experience preferred, with ABB, KUKA, or Yaskawa/Motoman experience considered valuable.

• Proficient in robot simulation and offline programming tools such as FANUC ROBOGUIDE, Process Simulate, Visual Components, or equivalent.

• Experience with 3D CAD, equipment layouts, reach studies, cycle-time analysis, and design-for-automation.

• Knowledge of machine vision, inspection, and robotic guidance systems.

• Experience with automated material handling, end-of-arm tooling, fixtures, and sensor integration.

• Familiarity with PLCs, HMIs, industrial networking, MES, SCADA, OEE, or manufacturing data systems.

• Experience with FAT, SAT, commissioning, production launches, and structured root-cause problem solving.

• Lean or Six Sigma certification is preferred.
